Resolved in 2023 - Part One.

2023 is coming to an end!

Many cases featured on this page were finally resolved during this year. I've created a two-part list of these cases - below is part one. Links to the full case write-ups are provided. Stay tuned for part 2!

The Murder of Tristyn Bailey (2021)

Tristyn Bailey was only 13 years old when she was brutally stabbed to death on May 9th, 2021. The teen girl lived in St. Augustine, Florida, and she was killed by another fellow teen from the area: 14-year-old Aiden Fucci. Before the murder, Fucci told several people that he had homicidal thoughts and planned to kill someone. However, it appears that Tristyn was unaware of this – as she voluntarily snuck out of her house to meet up with Fucci and another teenage boy just hours before she was killed.

Tristyn and Fucci left the other teenage boy’s house around 1:45 AM. Surveillance cameras captured them walking alongside each other on Saddlestone Drive. Later, around 3:30 AM, the same cameras captured Fucci walking by himself in the opposite direction. Tristyn never reappeared, nor did she ever return home. Around 6:00 PM the following evening, Tristyn’s body was found in a wooded area near a retention pond. It was clear that she had been stabbed to death.

It did not take long for investigators to identify Aiden Fucci as their prime suspect. He was subsequently arrested and charged as an adult with Tristyn’s murder. After initially proclaiming innocence, Fucci ultimately pleaded guilty in February 2023. He was later sentenced to life in prison.

The Disappearance and Murder of Audreona Barnes (2021)

Audreona Barnes vanished in Cleveland, Ohio on July 30th, 2021. The then-18-year-old was last seen after Army recruiters dropped her off at the apartment of her boyfriend, Bennie Washington. Audreona's family expected her home that evening, but she never returned. Her loved ones later reported her missing.

Washington is 20 years older than Audreona, and she was reportedly pregnant with his child at the time of her disappearance. After Audreona was reported missing, police questioned Washington, but he denied any knowledge of her whereabouts. Meanwhile, he feigned concern and grief over Audreona's disappearance to her family members.

Months later, in March 2022, Washington was evicted from his apartment. An employee from a cleaning crew was sent to the residence after Washington vacated.  While clearing out the apartment’s balcony, the employee found the body of a female hidden under a pile of clothes. Police were called, and the body was eventually identified as that of Audreona Barnes. She died from a gunshot wound to the head.

On March 21st, 2022, Washington was arrested and charged with Audreona's murder. He pleaded not guilty and went to trial in May 2023 - and he was ultimately convicted. Washington was later sentenced to 38 years in prison.

The Disappearance and Murder of Breasia Terrell (2020)

Breasia Terrell was only 10 years-old when her life was tragically cut short in July 2020. She was last seen alive at the home of Henry Dinkins in Davenport, Iowa. Dinkins is the father of Breasia's half-brother. Breasia reportedly tagged along with said brother during a visit to Dinkins' home on the day before her disappearance. She never returned home and was never seen alive by her loved ones again.

Dinkins was immediately a person of interest in Breasia's disappearance. Not only is he the last known adult to have seen Breasia alive, he also is a registered sex offender. Police searched Dinkins' apartment shortly after Breasia was reported missing. During the search, he was arrested for violating sex offender requirements. Meanwhile, he continued to deny any knowledge of Breasia's whereabouts.

Months later, in March 2022, fishermen at a pond in DeWitt found the body of a young girl. The body was soon identified as that of Breasia Terrell, and her death was labeled a homicide. About a month later, Henry Dinkins was arrested and charged with the first-degree kidnapping and murder in Breasia's case. It was later revealed that the State had evidence that Dinkins sexually assaulted Breasia before shooting her in the head.

In September 2023, a judge declared that Dinkins was guilty on both counts. He was later sentenced to two consecutive life terms.

The Disappearance and Murder of Emmishae Kirby (2020)

Emmishae Kirby (28) vanished in Houston, Texas on September 18th, 2020. Weeks later, on October 3rd, 2020, her body was found near Bear Creek Pioneers Park in Harris County. An autopsy later confirmed that she had been strangled and shot to death.

Emmishae's ex-boyfriend Javon Gilbert, then 29, was an immediate person of interest in the case. Emmishae had broken up with him shortly before her disappearance after he reportedly sexually assaulted her. He also had a history of violent behaviors and prior domestic violence charges. Additionally, Gilbert was the last known person to have seen Emmishae before her disappearance.

In fact, surveillance footage from Emmishae's apartment shows Emmishae and Gilbert entering the building together on the day of her disappearance. She was never seen alive again. Hours later, Gilbert is captured leaving the building carrying a "heavy object". Despite all of this, police initially did not charge Gilbert with anything related to Emmishae's case.

Months later, in January 2021, Gilbert was finally arrested and charged with Emmishae's murder and tampering with evidence. In April 2023, a judge declared Gilbert guilty of the charges and sentenced him to life in prison. He will be eligible for parole after serving a minimum of 30 years.

The Murder of Lisa Stover

Lisa Stover was murdered inside her apartment in the Rochester Borough of Beaver County, Pennsylvania on October 27th, 2016.

Most of that day was an entirely typical day for the 30-year-old woman. She attended college courses in the late afternoon/early evening. Meanwhile, her two sons were with their father at a friend's residence located near Lisa's apartment building.

Lisa arrived home from her classes around 6:00 PM. Shortly thereafter, she sent a text to her ex-boyfriend Mark Yaros, saying she was ready for him to bring her sons to her place. When Yaros and the children arrived approximately 15 minutes later, Lisa was found in her bed, covered in blood. She was taken to a hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries a short time later.

An autopsy determined that Lisa had been shot and brutally bludgeoned to death. To this day, a motive for her killing remains unknown. Lisa was reportedly not sexually assaulted during this attack. There were no signs of forced entry at her apartment, nor were any items of value missing/stolen from the residence.

Lisa's apartment building was secure, so visitors to the building had to be let inside. Additionally, the door to Lisa's unit itself was locked when Yaros and her sons arrived. Yaros told reporters that he "forced his way in" to the apartment before finding Lisa's body.

With all of this in mind, it seems likely that Lisa was killed by somebody she let into her apartment herself. Police initially had a potential suspect: a person in a hooded sweatshirt who was seen running away from the building shortly before Lisa was found. Said person was eventually identified and passed a polygraph related to the case.

To this day, there are many unanswered questions about Lisa's death. A murder weapon has never been found. In May 2023, it was reported that police were beginning to narrow down their list of suspects. However, no arrests have been made in Lisa's case.

There is a monetary reward available for anyone with information that could lead to Lisa's killer(s). If you have any information that could help the investigation, please submit a tip.

The Disappearance of Cynthia Bah-Traore

Cynthia Bah-Traore has been missing since February 3rd, 2021. The then-39-year-old reportedly left her home in Crowley on the day of her disappearance and never returned. One of her sons later called his grandmother that evening and said Cynthia had not returned home from running errands. Cynthia's mother subsequently contacted authorities.

Throughout the investigation, it was revealed that Cynthia was spotted by surveillance cameras at a Shell gas station in Grandview, Texas - over 25 miles away from Crowley - on the evening of her disappearance. Reports state that Cynthia left the gas station driving her blue Mazada CX-5 shortly after 10:30 PM. This is the last known confirmed sighting of Cynthia; she has never been seen or heard from again.

Cynthia Bah-Traore's vehicle on the Shell station surveillance footage. (source: cbsnews)

It is very unlikely that Cynthia vanished on her own accord. She's described as a loving mother who would never voluntarily leave behind her two sons. Additionally, there are many other suspicious circumstances surrounding her disappearance have led to even more questions Cynthia's case.

Questions about Grandview.

As previously noted, Cynthia's sons believed their mother had left their home in Crowley to run errands on the day of her disappearance. Did these errands lead Cynthia over 25 miles away to Grandview? Or was it something or someone else?

Investigators have not revealed any information related to these questions. It's unknown if Cynthia has any prior ties to Grandview. The only known connection between Cynthia and that area is the fact that the last known sighting of her occurred at the Shell gas station 1000 block of E. Criner Street.

Cynthia's cell phone and car.

Cynthia's cell phone was later found at the Shell station. Due to this, investigators were unable to use cell phone records to track where Cynthia traveled after leaving the gas station. It is unknown if investigators have found any other relevant information on the phone and/or the records.

On February 11th, 2021 - a little over a week after her disappearance - Cynthia's car was found abandoned on Interstate 35 at mile marker 335 in Waco, Texas. There was no sign of Cynthia herself on the scene. The vehicle remained in that spot for a few days before it was towed to an impound lot on February 15th, 2021.

The car being found in this location is suspicious for several reasons. Waco is located approximately 55 miles away from the gas station in Grandview. It's approximately 80 miles from Cynthia's home in Crowley. Due to this, it seems very unlikely that Cynthia voluntarily traveled that far away, at that time of night, for errands or any other reason - especially since her two sons were waiting for her at home.

With all this in mind, it can be easily theorized that it was not actually Cynthia who parked the car in that spot. However, there does not appear to be any publicly known surveillance footage of the car being parked on the Interstate - therefore it's unknown if Cynthia was a driver or passenger in the car prior to it being abandoned in that area.

Cynthia's mother Tambra Alvoid has indicated that she does not believe Cynthia herself drove the car to Waco. Alvoid told reporters, "Whoever parked her car knows where Cynthia is."

Crowley P.D. investigation.

The investigation into Cynthia's disappearance hypothetically spans three different investigative jurisdictions: Crowley, where Cynthia lived; Grandview, where she was last seen; and Waco, where her car was found. Investigators in Crowley were ultimately put in charge of the case.

The Crowley Police have appealed to locals for assistance with finding Cynthia. However, since she was last seen in Grandview, there's a question of whether or not this appeal would have been more effective if it had been made to Grandview locals. If Cynthia was spotted by anyone at all after leaving the gas station, it seems more likely that it would have occurred in Grandview rather than Crowley.

In fact, it does not seem likely that Cynthia returned to Crowley at all after leaving the gas station. Additionally, there are several miles between Grandview and Waco, where Cynthia's car was found - leaving potential for someone else to have seen Cynthia and/or her car between those two locations. At this time, though, it appears nobody has come forward.

Where the case stands today.

Cynthia remains missing today. Her loved ones believe she met with foul play. Her mother has expressed that the Crowley Police have limited time and resources, which indicates a lack of progress in the investigation into Cynthia's disappearance. A GoFundMe page is up in hopes of raising money for a private investigator for the case.

If you have any information that could lead to Cynthia's whereabouts, please contact authorities at 817-297-2276.

The Disappearance of Erinn Rogers

Erinn Rogers was only 14 years-old when she vanished on January 8th, 2007. The then-teenage girl was last seen at Petersen Educational Pathways School in Modesto, California. Erinn's mother dropped her off at the school that morning around 8:00 AM. Her family has never seen or heard from her again.

Petersen Educational Pathways is an alternative school located on 13th Street in Modesto. Erinn reportedly took classes there once a week. After her weekly classes, it was her usual routine to go to the public library and then to a friend's house. In fact, Erinn had plans to go to a friend's house on the day of her disappearance - but she did not show up as planned.

Erinn's mother reported her missing the following day. Police initially classified her as a runaway, despite the fact that she did not have a history of running away. After that, Erinn's case seemingly went cold. Years have passed, and there's been little to no coverage on her case. Very few details about the investigation are available.

There's a monetary reward available for anyone with information that could lead to Erinn's whereabouts. If you have any information, please submit a tip.

The Murder of Lisa Bollaert

Lisa Bollaert was found brutally murdered in Tulsa, Oklahoma on May 6th, 2009.

The 37-year-old woman was originally from New York and had only been in the Tulsa area since late April. Prior to this, Lisa was receiving mental health treatment at a facility in New York. According to reports, Lisa walked away from the facility and began hitch hiking across several states before stopping in Oklahoma. She checked into a Salvation Army shelter in Tulsa on April 27th, 2009. Two days later, Lisa checked into a women's shelter in Sand Springs.

Over the next several days, Lisa was spotted by surveillance cameras around the Tulsa and Sand Springs area. On April 30th, she was captured on camera outside of Tulsa's FBI office, accompanied by a white man in his 40s or 50s. On May 5th, Lisa was captured by convenience store footage after walking away from the Sand Springs women's shelter. The following day, Lisa's body was found in a garbage bag in a nearby front yard.

According to law enforcement, Lisa's killer(s) acted with "extreme rage." She had been severely beaten and her body was covered with lacerations. Lisa was found with her arms and legs bound by duct tape. Her body had been stuffed into a garbage bag before being left in the front yard on 81st and Elmwood.

Years have passed without an arrest in Lisa's case. Both Lisa's loved ones and investigators remained baffled by the questions: Who killed Lisa, and why?

-
More about Lisa.

Loved ones remember Lisa as a kind and generous person. Prior to her death, Lisa was married to a man named James Bollaert. The couple lived in New York and had a daughter together. Lisa also had a son from a previous marriage.

Image source: Justice for Lisa Bollaert (Facebook)

Lisa was also previously a member of the U.S. Army but had been recently discharged before entering the mental health facility in New York.

Struggles with mental health.

According to Oklahoma Cold Cases, Lisa first began showing signs of mental illness in 2001. Reports state she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and had been hospitalized in the past. Lisa's husband, James, reported that he was worried about his wife as she had told him that she was seeing ghosts.

It's known that Lisa was receiving treatment for her mental health shortly before she hitch-hiked from New York to Tulsa. She left the facility with no belongings - just the clothes on her back. Lisa did not even have a wallet or cell phone on her person.

Surveillance footage from the Tulsa FBI office.

As previously noted, Lisa was captured by surveillance cameras outside of the Tulsa FBI office on April 30th, 2009. She was accompanied by a white man in his 40s or 50s.

It was later learned that Lisa went to the FBI office that day because she "wanted to see if the FBI had any information on her before she went to an Army recruiting office to re-enlist." The man seen with her in the footage reportedly gave her a ride to the office.

After Lisa was found murdered, it was reported that police wanted to locate/speak to the man in the footage. He was not labeled a suspect at that time; just someone who investigators wanted to interview. Snippets of the surveillance footage were shown on the news as an appeal was made to the public to help identify this man.

In 2014, it was reported that investigators still had not identified this person. As of 2023, it's unclear if he has been identified or located.

Surveillance footage from the convenience store.

On May 5th, 2009, Lisa was captured by surveillance cameras outside of a convenience store near the women's shelter.

This is the last documented sighting of Lisa before she was found deceased. It is unknown where she was traveling in this footage. What is known is that at some point shortly after this, Lisa encountered the person(s) who ended her life.

A body is found.

On May 6th, 2009, police received a call from homeowners about a mysterious garbage bag in their front yard. Inside the bag was the body of a deceased woman. It took a few days, but the body was eventually identified as that of Lisa Bollaert. It was clear that she had been a victim of homicide.

The fact that Lisa had been bound with duct tape, beaten, and stabbed is just one of the many disturbing elements of this case. Although the case has been open for years, the disturbing aspects of it still haunt investigators to this day.

Where the case stands today.

Investigators have collected DNA samples from the trash bag and the tape on Lisa's body, but they have yet to get a solid lead in the case. Lisa's murder remains unsolved today.

If you have any information that could help solve Lisa's murder, please contact the Tulsa Police Homicide Unit at 918-596-9135.

The Disappearance of Jasmine Cruz

source: WVNS

Jasmine Cruz vanished in Deep Water, West Virginia on April 1st, 2016. The then-30-year-old woman left her mother's home on Boonesboro Road after an argument. Jasmine never returned and has never been seen or heard from again.

Certain reports state that Jasmine was last seen running into the woods near the water. Other initial reports state that she left the home and headed towards Montgomery. It's unclear if anyone saw Jasmine after leaving her mother's residence. Jasmine's family contacted Fayette County authorities after she did not return home. However, the sheriff's office initially did not feel Jasmine was in any danger.

In fact, on April 12th, 2016 - 12 days after Jasmine's disappearance - Sheriff Steve Kessler shared information about Jasmine on the family's behalf but stated that investigators were not searching for the missing woman. The report on Kessler's announcement states, "the Sheriff's Office is not actively searching for Cruz. She has not committed any crimes, and even if deputies located her, they could not force her to return home against her will. Cruz’s mother is concerned for her daughter’s safety, however, and has asked for the assistance of the public in helping attempt to locate her daughter."

A month after Jasmine's disappearance, investigators changed their tune. During May 2016, police reportedly received a tip that Jasmine may have been a victim of foul play. It appears that investigators followed up on this tip, but it is unknown if anything substantial was found. Searches in the area from where Jasmine vanished ended unsuccessfully.

Since then, years have passed without any updates in Jasmine's case. She remains missing today. If you have any information that could help solve Jasmine's disappearance, please submit a tip.

The Murders of Lyric Cook-Morrisey and Elizabeth Collins (2012)

Lyric Cook Morrissey (top), Elizabeth Collins (bottom)

Young cousins Lyric Cook-Morrissey (10) and Elizabeth Collins (8) vanished in Evansdale, Iowa on July 13th, 2012. The young girls disappeared after leaving their grandmother's house to go for a bike ride together. Family members began looking for Lyric and Elizabeth after hours passed without their return. After they were unable to locate the girls themselves, they called the police.

Hours later, the girls' bikes were found abandoned in the southeast corner of Meyers Lake. The bikes were leaned up against a fence and did not have any damage to them. Elizabeth's purse and cell phone were also found, but nothing else on the scene yielded any clues to their whereabouts. Eventually, police announced their belief that Lyric and Elizabeth had been abducted from that area.

Investigators initially received many tips in the case. However, as weeks turned into months without any sign of the girls, the tips began to dwindle. Several searches were conducted, but they ended unsuccessfully.

Months later, on December 5th, 2012, a group of hunters called police after finding two sets of human remains in a wooded area of the Seven Bridges Wildlife Park. Days later, it was confirmed that the remains were that of Lyric and Elizabeth. An autopsy determined that they had been murdered.

Despite numerous theories, the murders of these two young girls still remain unsolved today. There is currently a $100,000 reward in place for information that leads to an arrest in the case.

The Disappearance of Nevaeh Kingbird (2021)

source: Dateline
Nevaeh Kingbird has been missing since October 23rd, 2021. The then-15-year-old was last seen running from a residence in Bemidji, Minnesota. She has never been seen or heard from again.

Nevaeh's mother initially reported her daughter missing as a runaway. Nevaeh had run away before, but usually maintained contact with her loved ones. She also frequently posted to social media. This time around, though, Nevaeh's social media went inactive, and calls and texts to her phone went unanswered. Knowing this was uncharacteristic, Nevaeh's loved ones have grown to fear that she was harmed.

Reports state that Nevaeh's brother was told that she might have gotten injured shortly before vanishing. More specifically, Nevaeh's brother was told that Nevaeh climbed out the window of a Southview Terrace Park home around 2:00 AM and hit her head. She then reportedly laid on the ground for some time before getting up and running off.

Extensive searches have been conducted for Nevaeh, but unfortunately no sign of her has been found. She remains missing today. The FBI is involved in the search.

If you have any information that could lead to Nevaeh's whereabouts, please submit a tip.

In fact, Brandon's fiancĂ© was just days away from giving birth when he vanished. He unfortunately never had the chance to meet his child.

Brandon's family members reported him missing after he left and never returned home. Eventually, Brandon's family spoke to someone who said that they saw him sitting on the steps of the Park Meadows Apartment complex on November 24th - two days after he was last seen. NEBRASKA:

The Murder of Kelcey Fike (2008)

Source: Kearney Hub

Kelcey Fike was murdered inside her Kearney, Nebraska home on June 17th, 2008. The 21-year-old lived in the home with her boyfriend, however he was out of town at the time of Kelcey's death. Kelcey sent her final text around 1:00 AM that morning. Just hours later, she was deceased.

Police were called around 4:30 AM after neighbors noticed that Kelcey's home had erupted into flames. After firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, they found Kelcey. It was clear that she had not survived.

However, Kelcey's exact cause of death was not immediately clear. Due her lack of severe burns, investigators initially thought that Kelcey died from smoke inhalation - but as investigators took a closer look, they determined that was not true. Kelcey’s body was covered in bruises, her nose was broken, and she had suffered blunt-force trauma to the head.

An autopsy determined that Kelcey was strangled by hand and by a ligature. It was then declared that Kelcey had been murdered, and her killer had set her house on fire afterwards as an attempt to cover it up. Authorities believe that Kelcey was killed by someone she knew. Her boyfriend has been cleared of suspicion, as he had an alibi working with the Nebraska National Guard.

Police are hoping that DNA will help solve Kelcey's case. It remains opened today.

If you have any information that could solve Kelcey's case, please submit a tip.

NORTH DAKOTA:

The Suspicious Death of Olivia Lone Bear (2017)

Source: Bismarck Tribune
Olivia Lone Bear vanished in New Town, North Dakota on October 24th, 2017. The 32-year-old woman was last seen leaving a
local bar near her home on the Fort Berthold Reservation. It is believed that she made it home that night, as her wallet, cell phone, and the clothes she was wearing that night were inside her residence. However, Olivia herself and the truck she had been borrowing were both nowhere to be found.

Nine months passed without any significant news in Olivia's case. Then, on July 27th, 2018, a group of volunteers spotted the vehicle Olivia was driving underwater in Lake Sakakawea. Authorities were notified, and a few days later, professional search teams entered the water. It was then that the pickup truck was removed from the water. Inside the vehicle was Olivia's body. She had been buckled into the front passenger seat.

An autopsy was unable to determine the cause of Olivia's death. There were reportedly no signs of significant trauma on her body. Reports state that the medical personnel were "unable to determine a definitive traumatic, natural, or toxicological cause for her death."

At this time, foul play has not been ruled out. The exact cause and manner of Olivia's death remain unsolved. The FBI is involved in the case, but very little information about the investigation has been revealed.

If you have any information that could solve Olivia's case, please submit a tip.

SOUTH DAKOTA:

The Murder of Victoria Eagleman (2006)

Source: The Criminal Mind
Victoria Eagleman was 33 years old when she vanished on July 28th, 2006. The mother-of-five spent that day swimming and drinking along the Missouri River on the Lower Brule Lakota Indian Reservation. She never returned home and was never seen alive by her family and friends again.

Weeks later, on August 22nd, 2006, a group of volunteers organized a search for Victoria with over 200 community members participating. It was during that search that Victoria's nude body was found stuffed in a culvert on a remote part of the reservation. There were obvious signs of trauma to her body, and investigators later determined that her death was likely caused by blunt force trauma to the head.

It's been reported that Victoria was in an abusive relationship with her boyfriend at the time of her disappearance/death. She was with her boyfriend on the day of her disappearance, and according to her sister, the couple had been arguing. However, Victoria's boyfriend has never been publicly named as a suspect — nor has anyone to date.

Victoria's case remains unsolved. The FBI is involved in Victoria's murder investigation.

If you have any information that could solve Victoria's case, please submit a tip.
