The Disappearance of Marianne Waters

Source: Hawaii News Now

Marianne Waters has been missing since August 2008. The then-22-year-old was last seen in the Waikiki area of Honolulu, Hawaii. Marianne was due to travel to Oregon to visit her mother on August 23rd, 2008, but she never arrived. She has never been seen or heard from again.

Marianne was living in Hawaii at the time of her disappearance. Her family lived in Oregon and other parts of the mainland United States. Marianne spoke to her family members on the phone regularly prior to her disappearance, but it appears that she fell out of touch sometime between mid-to-late July and early August of 2008.

Marianne's NamUs page states that she last spoke to her mother on July 18th, 2008. It was later determined that Marianne was last seen in Waikiki on August 3rd, 2008. Her family members reported her missing weeks later, after she did not show up for her planned trip to Oregon.

Very little information is available about Marianne's case. Local Hawaiian news sources have reported about her disappearance, but details have been minimal. In April 2014, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported that Marianne's husband filed for divorce - but further details about the husband and their relationship prior to Marianne's disappearance are unknown.

Despite the lack of information, it's clear that Marianne's absence was immediately worrisome to her loved ones. Reports state that relatives living as far away as Japan came to Hawaii to search for Marianne. According to Charley Project, Marianne's family believes that foul play is responsible for her disappearance.

In late 2016, an obituary for Marianne was posted on Legacy.com. The obituary lists her date of death as August 4th, 2008. However, it appears that Marianne's remains have never been found. She is still classified as a missing person to this day.

Honolulu Crime Stoppers is offering a monetary reward for anyone with information that could solve Marianne's disappearance. If you have any information that could help the investigation, please submit a tip.

The Disappearance of Daniel Lambertson

source

Daniel Lamberton has been missing since January 30th, 2010.

The then-39-year-old was last seen in Aiea, Hawaii. On the evening of his disappearance, Daniel and his wife Theresa attended a church service at Farrington High School. The couple drove to the service separately, but met up once they arrived.

Afterwards, Daniel and Theresa left in their respective vehicles at the same time - presumably to go back home. Theresa made it back to their residence in Pearl City, but Daniel never arrived. At some point after leaving the church, Daniel called Theresa twice, but she was driving and missed the calls. When she tried to call back, Daniel did not answer. He has never been seen or heard from again.

Daniel was reported missing the following day. The vehicle he was driving vanished with him, leading many to fear that he had gotten into a car accident and/or had driven off the road. However, on February 2nd, Daniel's car was found abandoned in a parking lot along the north shore in Oahu. The car was locked, and many of Daniel's personal belongings were left inside. There was otherwise no sign of Daniel himself on the scene.

Searches for Daniel were conducted by both professionals and volunteers. Unfortunately, nothing was found. Years have passed, and there is very little information available about the investigation into Daniel's disappearance. Police have given very few updates. There has been a lot of speculation about what might have happened to Daniel, but nothing has ever been confirmed. Still, there are a few prominent theories.

-

While investigating Daniel's disappearance, police learned a lot about his background. Detectives wanted to learn about his job, his love life, his friendships - anything that could provide information about Daniel and/or his disappearance. Their findings seemingly did not uncover anything suspicious about Daniel or his life before his disappearance.

Daniel is originally from New Jersey, and he met his wife Theresa there in 2002.  The couple dated for years, and they eventually moved to Hawaii together. While there, Theresa worked as a nurse. Daniel got his real estate license and began working as a realtor. He originally worked for the Hawaii Realty Group, but shortly before his disappearance, he switched over to the Tropic Lighting Real Estate agency. Daniel and Theresa also were members and regular churchgoers at New Hope Christian Fellowship.

By all accounts, Daniel appeared to be a well-rounded person who did not have any known enemies. Due to this, his disappearance seems all the more mysterious. Still - there were some aspects of his life that have had been speculated about, and a few theories have emerged.

Relationship with Theresa.

source

As previously stated, Daniel and Theresa met in 2002, while both were still living in New Jersey. They eventually moved to Hawaii together. The couple finally married in October 2009, after dating for seven years. Daniel vanished just a few months after their wedding.

Although Theresa was the last known person to have seen Daniel, it appears that she is not a suspect in the case. It was noted that the couple did not drive to the church service together on the evening of Daniel's disappearance. This was reportedly because Daniel had been running errands throughout that day, so they agreed to meet up at the service.

There are some discrepancies about what the couple's plans were after church. Some reports state that Daniel and Theresa intended to go straight home, while other reports state that they were going to go out to dinner before going home. Either way, Theresa arrived at their planned destination - whether it was their home or a restaurant - and Daniel did not.

Theresa reported Daniel missing the following evening. Some find it suspicious that Theresa waited an entire day to call police - but the fact that she waited that long is not necessarily be indicative that she is involved in her husband's disappearance. After all, Daniel is an adult, and many police agencies do not even bother looking into cases of adults who have not been missing for a full 24 hours. It's also completely possible that Theresa thought that Daniel would eventually show up.

Others have also said that Theresa was/is not an active participant in the search for Daniel. However, in the early stages of the investigation, Theresa spoke to reporters and made a public plea for Daniel's safe return.

(source)

While it's true that several guilty people also have made similar pleas in an attempt to deflect suspicion, that may not be the case here. At this point, it's all speculation. Theresa has never been named a person of interest in the case. She has since remarried.

Some still believe Theresa knows more than she has disclosed - while others have pondered if there are other aspects of Daniel's life that may be a factor in his disappearance.

The Real Estate Work.

Daniel got his real estate license after he and Theresa moved to Hawaii. He enjoyed the work liked to meet new people while on the job. As previously noted, Daniel switched to a different realtor agency shortly before his disappearance. This is not particularly unusual for people working in this field, but there are rumors that the new real estate agency was involved in some shady business. The details of said "shady business" are not known, but there are several complaints about the company that can be found online.

If the company Daniel worked for was actually involved in shady or illegal business, it's possible that this played in a role in his disappearance. Did Daniel know something he shouldn't have known? Or was Daniel set up by someone in the company? Police have not released any evidence to suggest this to be true - but it's certainly not impossible at this point.

Many have questioned if the location that Daniel's car was found might have to do with his job as well. As previously noted, the car was found abandoned in a parking lot along the north shore in Oahu. This location is an approximate hour and a half's drive away from the church service that Daniel attended on the night of his disappearance. It's also about an hour's drive away from his home in Pearl City.

It seems unusual that he would drive that far after leaving the church service, since reports state he intended to go to the same place as his wife that evening. With this in mind, some have speculated that Daniel might have received a call about a potential real estate listing that sent him to that area. It's possible that this explains the two phone calls he made to Theresa after leaving the church service; because he wanted to tell her that he would be getting home late.

Again, this is not a confirmed theory, but simply another possible one. It also leaves many questions. If Daniel did, in fact, go to check out a vacant home - what happened afterwards? Was he sent there as a set up for his murder? If so, by whom and why?

The car's location in particular also leads to a few other theories.

Finding the vehicle.

Source: Hawaii News Now

Daniel's car was found three days after his disappearance. There is reportedly no known connection between Daniel and the location where the vehicle found. It's possible he traveled there to meet someone, maybe for work, maybe for something else.

Another odd thing about the car's location is that there is no direct route to this spot from the church. It's been reported that he would have to drive in a loop, along the coastline and the mountains, to get to the spot where his car was parked. If Daniel went there immediately after leaving the church service, it is still unclear why.

The car was found close to the ocean - therefore creating a theory that Daniel might have ended up in the water. There are theories that he might have harmed himself, but his loved ones firmly believe he would never do such a thing. There is also a theory that he was murdered and disposed of in the water. Thorough searches have been conducted, but nothing was found.

Today.

Daniel remains missing. No suspects or persons of interest have been announced in the case. Unfortunately, it appears the case has gone cold.

The Honolulu Police are in charge of Daniel's case. If you have information that could help the investigation, please contact authorities at 808-529-3064.

The Disappearance of Khiara Henry

Khiara Henry vanished at the age of 23 on July 21st, 2019. The San Diego native disappeared while on a solo trip to Hawaii. Khiara first arrived in Maui on July 18th. She checked into the Aston Maui Hill in Kīhei and spent the next few days taking various guided tours. On July 21st, Khiara decided to rent a car so she could take a one-day visit to Waiʻānapanapa in Hāna. She was seen around 2:00 PM at a Hertz Rental Car in Kahului, where she rented a black Nissan Sentra. This was the last known sighting of Khiara, and she has never been seen or heard from again.

Surveillance footage of Khiara at the rental agency

On July 23rd, 2019, the Nissan Sentra was found in the gravel parking lot of Waiʻānapanapa State Park. Officials noted that the car appeared to be abandoned. However, Khiara was not reported missing at that time. Two days later, park officials contacted the Maui Police Department to make a "suspicious activity report" regarding the seemingly abandoned vehicle.

Meanwhile, Khiara's family members reached out to authorities in Maui after several calls and texts to Khiara's phone went unanswered. On July 26th, 2019, it was announced that several of Khiara's items--including her luggage and identification--were found inside the car at Waiʻānapanapa State Park. It was at that point when it sunk in that Khiara was missing. She was officially reported missing shortly thereafter.

Searches for Khiara throughout Waiʻānapanapa State Park ended unsuccessfully. Many have speculated that Khiara had an accident while hiking, but this has yet to be confirmed. None of Khiara's missing items, such as her black backpack, cell phone, and rental car keys have been found. Additionally, the last known sighting of Khiara was at the rental car agency--not the park. Although her rental car was found at the park, it appears that nobody reported seeing Khiara herself at the park. However, the mileage in the rental car indicates that it was driven straight from the Hertz to Waiʻānapanapa.

Khiara's family members are still desperately seeking answers. They have set up a Facebook page to continue to spread awareness about Khiara's case. They have also raised a $25,000 reward for anyone with information on what might have happened to Khiara.

If you have any information that could help the investigation, please call the Henry's family hotline at 808-757-5102.

The Disappearance of Kimberly Day Jacobs

Kimberly Day Jacobs has been missing since August 21st, 2008. At the time of her disappearance, the 47-year-old lived in Honolulu, Hawaii with Stan Jacobs--her husband of three years. Kimberly was reportedly experiencing emotional distress on the day she vanished. She was experiencing severe back pain and was also dealing with a leak in the Waikiki apartment where she lived with her husband. Additionally, Kimberly and Stan also owned property in California, and their tenant in said property was harassing her.

Stan reportedly last saw Kimberly around 6PM on the day of her disappearance. He said that she was distraught over the aforementioned circumstances, so he encouraged her to get some rest. Stan then left their home to go to a meeting. When he returned at 8PM, Kimberly was gone. She has never been seen or heard from again. A friend of Kimberly later reported her missing.

Kimberly left behind all of her personal items, including her passport and credit cards. According to her loved ones, it is uncharacteristic of her to leave without warning and to stay out-of-touch with her daughter. Many people have found it suspicious that Kimberly's friend is the one who reported her missing, rather than her husband. However, there are conflicting reports about Stan's potential involvement in her disappearance. Kimberly's page on the Charley Project states that Stan has cooperated with the investigation. Still, Kimberly's family members believe that he knows more than he has revealed.

A blog run by Kimberly's sister has elaborated a bit more on their suspicions against Stan. Various posts on the blog state that Stan has held memorials/vigils for Kimberly without inviting Kimberly's family members. Some people have commented on said posts in Stan's defense, while others have also commented that they, too, are suspicious of him. Authorities have not publicly named Stan as a suspect.

Kimberly's case has many similarities to the Suzanne Morphew case. Suzanne vanished on May 10th, 2020, from her family's home in Maysville, Colorado. She was reported missing by a neighbor, rather than her husband, Barry Morphew. Many of Suzanne's loved ones had suspicions about Barry from the very beginning. Almost a year after Suzanne's disappearance, Barry was arrested and charged with Suzanne's murder. However, those charges were eventually dropped, and Suzanne still remains missing today. A write up on her case can be found here.

Unlike Suzanne's case, Kimberly's case has not had any arrests or publicly named suspects. She remains missing today. If you have any information that could help solve the case, please call 808-529-3115.

The Murder of Carly 'Charli' Scott

Charli Scott (27) was five months pregnant when she disappeared in Haiku, Hawaii on February 9th, 2014. She was last seen by her ex-boyfriend/father of her unborn child, Steven Capobianco (24). Steven claims that he called Charli on the evening of...

Carly 'Charli' Scott (27) was five months pregnant when she disappeared in Haiku, Hawaii on February 9th, 2014. She was last seen by her ex-boyfriend/father of her unborn child, Steven Capobianco (24). Steven claimed that he called Charli on the evening of the 9th and asked her for assistance after his car went into a ditch on Hana Hwy. Charli, who was still deeply in love with Steven despite their breakup, dutifully went to help him.

Steven then claimed that after Charli helped him, the two headed their separate ways. She was never seen alive again. Her family reported her missing the following evening after they were unable to locate her or get in touch with her.

Suspicions fell on Steven early on in the investigation. On February 11th, a day after she was reported missing, two of her sisters went to the site on Hana Hwy where Steven claimed his car got stuck. After looking around for a bit and finding nothing, they headed back to Haiku, where they saw Steven driving on a dirt road that leads to Nua’ailua Bay. He told Charli’s sisters that it was “unnecessary” to look for Charli down there because he had already looked. The following evening, on February 12th, Charli’s friends found her car in a pineapple field on Peahi Rd. The car had been completely torched by fire.

On February 13th, Charli’s sister found some of her bloodstained clothing in a remote area off of the road where Steven had previously said it was “unnecessary” to search because he had already done so. This prompted a massive search of the area by police the following day. It was during that search that a jawbone was found. After a forensic scientist confirmed that the clothing and the jawbone found did, in fact, belong to Charli, her case turned into a homicide investigation. Steven was subsequently arrested for murder and arson on July 18th, 2014.

But why did he do it?

Those closest to both Steven and Charli say there were numerous red flags in their relationship. Prior to their breakup, Steven and Charli lived together for two years. However, a close friend of Steven’s claimed that Steven would tell people that he and Charli were just roommates, and that Steven did not like being photographed with Charli. Charli’s family members claimed that Charli was madly in love with Steven, and after their breakup, she still ran to him whenever he called—despite the fact that she knew he did not feel the same way and that he was even dating someone else.

Sometime after their breakup, Charli fell pregnant with Steven’s child. Family members say she was excited about being a mother. Steven, on the other hand, was less than thrilled. He wanted Charli to get an abortion, but she made the decision to go through with the pregnancy. Prosecutors claim this as the main motive in the case: Not only did Steven not want to be a father at 24, he also did not want to be forever tied to Charli as the father of her child.

On December 28, 2016, a jury in Maui found Steven Capobianco guilty of second-degree murder and arson. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
