The Disappearance and Death of Kayla Sobczak

Kayla Sobczak was only 18 years-old when she was found deceased under suspicious circumstances on March 9th, 2025. The teen's family had reported her missing months earlier, during December 2024. Reports state that Kayla was last seen alive in downtown Kenosha, Wisconsin.

The last confirmed sighting of Kayla prior to her disappearance occurred on December 17th, 2024. She was reportedly in the area of 60th Street and 12th Avenue. Around 11:00 PM that evening, Kayla was seen getting into a charcoal grey sedan near the 6000 block of 12th. The car was driven by an unknown individual. Kayla never returned home, nor did she ever contact her loved ones again. Her family members reported her missing on December 23rd, 2024.

After Kayla's missing persons' case was opened, the Kenosha Police Department reported that she was known to frequent Racine, Wisconsin, Chicago, Illinois, and Waukegan, Illinois. The police department also reported that Kayla had a history of substance abuse and sex work. However, they declined to comment on whether they felt these things played a role in Kayla's disappearance.

Months passed without any sign of Kayla. Then, on March 9th, 2025, a body was found in a break wall within Lake Michigan at Eichelman Park. Days later, it was confirmed that the body was that of Kayla Sobczak. When the news broke about her body being found, police stated that they were still investigating a cause and manner of death. This information remains unknown to the public to this day; it's unknown if detectives have made any progress on this part of the investigation.

Due to the suspicious circumstances surrounding Kayla's case, many have speculated that foul play is responsible for her disappearance and death. However, this has yet to be confirmed by law enforcement. Police have not shared any details about the investigation since Kayla's body was found.

Kayla's case remains opened. If you have any information that could help provide answers about her disappearance and death, please contact Kenosha authorities at 262-605-5280.

The Disappearance of Mariah Cockshell

Mariah Cockshell has been missing since March 22nd, 2025. The 26-year-old woman was last seen around 3:00 AM that morning, in the area of East 54th Street and Prospect Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri. Mariah never returned home, and her loved ones have never seen or heard from her again.

Mariah was reported missing by family members on March 28th, 2025. She was living in Gladstone at the time of her disappearance, so her missing persons’ report was filed with the Gladstone PD. However, once police began investigating, it was determined that the last known sighting of Mariah occurred on March 22nd in Kansas City.

When reports about Mariah’s disappearance began to circulate, it was noted that she vanished shortly after leaving her workplace. She was last seen wearing a pink sweatshirt and black scrub pants. In September 2025, months after Mariah vanished, the Gladstone PD released an image of her wearing the clothing she was last seen wearing. At this time, police have not disclosed how this image was obtained.

Certain reports about Mariah’s disappearance state that “she was believed to be in danger” at the time she vanished. Investigators have also not elaborated on what kind of danger they believe she was in, or why - but they have appealed to the public for anyone who might have seen Mariah at the time of her disappearance to come forward.

The Gladstone Police Department has investigative agency over Mariah’s case. If you have any information that could lead to her whereabouts, please contact authorities at 816-436-3550.

The Disappearance of Heaven McGee

Heaven Desiree McGee has been missing since January 2025. The 20-year-old woman was living in Oakland, California at the time of her disappearance, however; she was last seen in Stockton on January 20th. Heaven never returned home and her loved ones have never seen or heard from her again.

The FBI is working with the Oakland Police on their investigation into Heaven’s disappearance. A report on Heaven’s case from June 2025 quotes an FBI investigator who stated, “Based on the evidence gathered in this case, we believe Heaven was being trafficked and [that] is [the] reason why she was in the Stockton area.” Authorities have not disclosed what evidence they have found that leads them to believe Heaven was trafficked, likely due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.

Additional details about the circumstances surrounding Heaven’s disappearance are unknown as well. What is known is that Heaven’s mother last saw her in Oakland on January 17th, 2025. The final confirmed sighting of Heaven occurred three days later in Stockton. Various online sources state that she was last seen at a truck stop in Stockton - a location that locals have called a “bad area.”

Since that final sighting, Heaven’s location has been unknown. Her loved ones are still desperately seeking answers. The FBI has placed a monetary reward available in exchange for information that could lead to Heaven’s whereabouts. If you have any information that could help the investigation, please contact authorities at 1-800-225-5324 or submit a tip online.

The Murder of Marvayah Darby

Marvayah Darby was only 12 years-old when her life was tragically taken during the early-morning hours of June 13th, 2025. The young girl lived with her family in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was shot to death at her residence on 5000 block of N. 73rd Street.

The shooting occurred at approximately 1:20 AM. At that time, according to reports, a vehicle pulled up in front of the Darby’s home. Then, a person or persons inside the vehicle fired several rounds at the residence. Some of the bullets traveled into the home and struck Marvayah as she slept in her bedroom. She did not survive and was pronounced deceased by first responders.

The Milwaukee Police Department and the FBI have been searching for Marvayah’s killer(s) since the onset of the investigation. Unfortunately, the case has quickly grown cold; as detectives have been unable to identify any suspects. Investigators have shared that they believe “a silver or gray SUV may have been involved” in the shooting. Other than that, there is no further information about a potential suspect or suspects.

Reports state that the Darby family had moved into the home just a few weeks prior to the shooting. One particular report on the case states that “detectives believe the house itself may have been the target, not Marvayah.” Relatives of the family have stated that they do not know why anyone would want to harm Marvayah or anyone in her family.

Investigators have reportedly interviewed neighbors of the Darby family, classmates of Marvayah, and “anyone listed in gang databases.” Unfortunately, nothing has led detectives to any substantial leads. The FBI has offered a $10,000 reward in exchange for information that leads to the arrest/conviction of Marvayah’s killer(s).

If you have any information that could help solve the murder of Marvayah Darby, please contact the Milwaukee Police Department at (414) 935-7360 or submit a tip online.

The Disappearance and Death of Monyiah Holman

Monyiah Holman was reported missing in Missouri during April 2024. Reports state that the then-26-year-old was last seen in Clayton. The circumstances surrounding Monyiah’s disappearance are unclear, but some sources list the date she went missing as April 15th, 2024.

There was very little reporting on Monyiah’s disappearance. Over a year passed without any news on the missing woman. Then, on October 3rd, 2025, it was reported that a utility worker had found the body of a woman in a vacant lot in the North Riverfront neighborhood of St. Louis.

The press release states that authorities responded to the scene shortly after 10:00 AM. The report reads, in part, “Officers arrived on scene and located an adult female, who was not conscious and not breathing. EMS responded and pronounced the female dead on the scene.” At first, the identity of the deceased woman was not immediately clear. Days later, on October 8th, it was announced that the woman was identified as Monyiah Holman.

It appears that Monyiah had not been deceased for an extended period of time when her body was found. The wording in the press release indicates that first responders checked Monyiah’s body for consciousness and breathing; an act that would not have been necessary if her body had been in a state of decomposition. This makes it likely that Monyiah was alive for approximately 17 months after being reported missing.

Monyiah’s whereabouts and actions between April 2024 and October 2025 are unknown by investigators. Monyiah’s cause and manner of death are also still unknown. As of mid-October 2025, it was reported that these circumstances were still being investigated.

Police have appealed for anyone who might have seen or interacted with Monyiah between April 2024 and October 2025 to come forward. They have also appealed for anyone with information about her death to come forward. If you have information that could help solve this case, please contact SLMPD at 314-444-5371.

The Suspicious Disappearance and Death of Meredith Rose Walker

Meredith Rose Walker was found deceased under suspicious circumstances on June 7th, 2025. The young woman's remains were stumbled upon in Emporia, Virginia near Market Drive and Commonwealth Boulevard. She was only 23 years-old at the time of her death.

The mystery began over a week prior to Meredith's body being found - in an area nearly 700 miles away. Meredith was actually a resident of Naples, Florida at the time of her death. On May 30th, 2025, she was released from a jail in Orlando. Surveillance cameras captured her that day; the image below shows Meredith in the clothes she was last seen wearing. This was the last known sighting of Meredith before her body was found several states away.

It is unknown how Meredith ended up in Virginia. Various reports state that her family believes she was headed north to visit family members after a recent death of a loved one. It is also believed that Meredith "may have intended to hitchhike due to a lack of transportation."

There are very few additional details available about Meredith's case. When it was first reported that her body had been found, her cause and manner of death were undetermined. It's unknown if those details have been determined now, as this information has not been released to the public. The FBI is involved in the investigation, and they have labeled Meredith's case as a "suspicious death".

A public appeal has been made for anyone with information on Meredith's death to come forward. Additionally, authorities would like anyone who might have seen Meredith between May 30th and June 7th to contact the detectives. There is a monetary reward of at least $20,000 in exchange for information that could help solve the case.

If you have any information that could help solve the death of Meredith Rose Walker, please contact the FBI Richmond Field Office at (804) 261-1044 or submit a tip online.

The Disappearance and Murder of Emily Pike

Emily Pike was only 14 years-old when she was found murdered on February 14th, 2025.

The teen girl had been reported missing over two weeks earlier, after she ran away from the Sacred Journey Inc. group home in Mesa, Arizona. Emily had been in-and-out of the group home since 2023. Prior to entering the group home, Emily grew up on the San Carlos Apache reservation.

Emily was first brought to Sacred Journey Inc. in late summer 2023, after a second phone call had been made to report that she had been sexually assaulted near her home. The relative accused of assaulting Emily was taken into custody but later released without being charged. Due to concerns for Emily's safety, the San Carlos Apache social services removed her from her home. She was then sent to the Sacred Journey Inc. group home in Mesa - located over 100 miles from the reservation.

Reports indicate that Emily was unhappy about living at Sacred Journey. She ran away from the group home several times over the next two months. Emily also had been hospitalized during that time for self-harm and an attempt to take her own life. In late November 2023, she was sent to a behavioral health facility. Emily spent the next year in the facility before returning to Sacred Journey Inc. in December 2024.

Shortly over a month later, on January 27th, 2025, Emily ran away from Sacred Journey again. This time, she would never return. Weeks later, on February 14th, 2025, dismembered human remains were found in garbage bags off of Highway 60, north of Globe, Arizona. On February 27th, it was confirmed that those remains belonged to Emily Pike. Her death was quickly labeled a homicide.

As of today, no arrests have been made for Emily's murder. Her case has left many unanswered questions - not only about her killer's identity, but also about how cases involving abuse, mental health, missing people, and violence are handled for Indigenous women and children.

More about Emily and the San Carlos Apache.

As previously stated, Emily grew up on the San Carlos Apache reservation. She lived on the reservation with her mother, brother, cousins, and grandmother. The reservation is located in Arizona and is quite large, spanning approximately 1.8 million acres.

Reports note that there are only 22 tribal police officers employed for the entire reservation. This is potentially why the tribe's fish and game department responded to the 911 call about Emily being sexually assaulted back in 2023. When later asked, the San Carlos Apache Police Chief stated that he was "unsure" why fish and game was sent to the scene instead of a police officer; though he believes that the officers were occupied at that time.

After two reports were made about Emily being sexually assaulted, tribal social services opted to remove her from her family's home and send her to a group home. There is reportedly one small group home on the reservation, but it was at capacity when Emily was removed by social services. As such, she was sent to Sacred Journey Inc. in Mesa - over 100 miles from the only home Emily had ever known.

Sacred Journey is licensed by Arizona's Department of Children's Services; however, Emily was not considered to be in the custody of DCS while being housed at the group home. The group home has contracts with the San Carlos tribe, which means children from the tribe who are placed there are still considered under tribal custody rather than DCS.

Emily's time at Sacred Journey in 2023.

It appears that Emily was unhappy at Sacred Journey from the start. She was hospitalized for self-harm shortly after arriving at the group home. Then, on September 11th, 2023, Emily and another teenage girl were reported missing from Sacred Journey. The two girls were later found at a local park in Mesa. Both told police officers that they did not want to return to the group home because they would be "forced to clean — scrubbing walls, baseboards, windowsills, and even getting on their hands and knees to scrub grout from the tile."

Later that month, Emily ran away from the group home again. She was found by a police officer, and she yet again told the officer that she did not want to return the group home. Body cam footage shows Emily saying, “I just want to see my mom, the group home is not my home." It's worth noting that, at this time, Emily's mother was barred from having contact with her.

In that same footage, Emily is also heard saying “I’m not going to go to that f****** group home, I hate it there.” The group home subsequently requested that Emily get checked out a mental health facility. She was brought to the facility shortly thereafter but was eventually returned back to Sacred Journey.

Emily ran away from the home two additional times between September and November of 2023. Then, on November 8th, 2023, Emily attempted to take her own life. She was subsequently sent to a hospital where she spent the next few weeks.

Late November 2023 - December 2024.

After being released from the hospital, Emily was permitted to be picked up by her aunt and uncle so she could spend the Thanksgiving holiday with relatives. They took a road trip through Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah. During this time, relatives raised concerns about Emily's behavior.

The day after Thanksgiving, Emily reportedly had a disagreement with family members. The argument prompted her to run away. When Emily was later located by a police officer, she refused to return to her relatives. She also expressed that she was feeling suicidal. This incident led to Emily being hospitalized again. Afterwards, she was put on a flight back to Arizona, where she was taken to another mental health facility.

Emily spent the next year in the mental health facility. When she was released in December 2024, she was taken back to Sacred Journey Inc.

January 27th, 2025: Emily runs away for the final time.

On January 27th, 2025, Emily ran away from Sacred Journey again. Reports state that she left the home around 7:00 PM. After staff at the group home searched for her themselves to no avail, they called police to report her missing around 8:20 PM.

Once the missing persons' report was made, it was determined that Emily had been spotted on foot around 7:45 PM - approximately 45 minutes after leaving the group home - on Mesa Drive and McKellips Road. This is the last known sighting of Emily alive.

Both police and the group home employees spent the next few days checking areas around Mesa that were familiar to Emily. Unfortunately, they were unable to locate her. Police also spoke to Emily's roommate at the group home. She told them that Emily planned to meet up with a boy that she met while taking guitar lessons. However, police were unable to find any evidence that this had taken place.

By January 29th, a statewide missing person bulletin was issued for Emily Pike. Information about her disappearance began to circulate on the local news and on social media.

February 2nd - February 11th, 2025: social media rumors and a voicemail.

On February 2nd, 2025, an unknown caller left a voicemail at the group home, stating that Emily had returned to the San Carlos Apache reservation and was with her mother. Interestingly enough, the group home did not notice such a voicemail had been left until February 7th - five days after the original call.

However, on February 6th, 2025 - a day before staff noticed the voicemail - an anonymous Facebook post also claimed that Emily was on the reservation with her mother. Her mother denied this and stated that she had not seen or heard from Emily.

The following day, the group home staff finally accessed the voicemail. The police reviewed the message on February 11th. Emily's mother continuously denied knowing of her daughter's whereabouts, and after police investigated these claims, they too determined that the voicemail was false.

February 14th, 2025: human remains found.

On February 14th, 2025, police in Gila County were called after suspicious looking garbage bags were spotted on Highway 60 near Globe, Arizona. The bags were found on a trail near mile marker 277. Detectives on the scene made a gruesome discovery inside the bags: a head and torso inside one, and severed legs inside the other.

The human remains were found over 100 miles away from where Emily was last seen in Mesa. They were found, however, close to the San Carlos Apache reservation. On February 19th, 2025, the Bureau of Indian Affairs contacted police, suspecting that the remains belonged to Emily Pike.

February 27th, 2025: Emily is identified.

On February 27th, 2025, authorities confirmed that the human remains were formally identified as that of Emily Pike. It was then announced that she had been murdered and dismembered. A public appeal was made for individuals with information about her case to come forward.

Questions about the group home and jurisdictions.

The day after Emily's remains were identified, the Arizona Department of Child Safety (DCS) opened a licensing inquiry into Sacred Journey Inc. It was determined that group home staff followed the protocols that were in place when Emily ran away. Still, there has been scrutiny about the safety measures at the home itself.

Emily is one of 30 children who have been able to leave the group home without notice. It appears that there is not any footage of Emily escaping from the group home, though it has been determined that she was able to leave through the window.  Many have questioned if the building was secure enough to house children who were at risk of running away.

Additionally, as previously noted, Emily was still in custody of the San Carlos Apache tribe when she was at Sacred Journey Inc. A 2025 report on Emily's case explains this a little further, explaining that, "because Emily was in the custody of the tribe — a sovereign nation — certain reporting requirements outlined in Arizona law when a child in DCS custody goes missing didn’t apply to her."

It was also noted that, due to this, the department did not have access to information that would have allowed them to contact her family and friends. The discrepancies between the tribal law and state law caused a breakdown in communication about Emily's case - which is why her family members were not immediately informed about her disappearance.

Emily's case has prompted lawmakers to push for new legislation surrounding both group home protocols and tribal laws. Many are advocating for children to be listed as missing - rather than a runaway - if they go missing while being housed in group homes. There are also advocates pushing for new protocols surrounding communication between DCS and tribes.

Who killed Emily?

At this time, no arrests have been made for Emily's murder. No persons of interest or suspects have been publicly announced. Although Emily vanished from Mesa, her remains were found over 100 miles away in Globe - which has led to several questions such as: how did she end up there? Was she killed in Mesa and left in Globe? Or was she brought to the area before being killed?

In early June 2025, it was reported that search warrants were served, and a person of interest was interviewed. Still, Emily's killer remains unknown. The FBI has joined the murder investigation, and a monetary reward in exchange for information that could lead to an arrest/conviction has been posted.

If you have any information that could help solve the murder of Emily Pike, please submit a tip.

The Abduction of Sophia Franklin

During February 2025, an AMBER Alert was issued in the states of Wisconsin, Arkansas and Missouri, for Sophia Franklin - a 16-year-old missing from Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. The teen girl was last seen at her family's home on the evening of February 2nd, 2025. The following morning, Sophia was gone. Her family contacted police shortly after realizing she wasn't at the residence.

It was immediately feared that Sophia left her house to meet up with Gary Day - a 40-year-old man with a history of abusing children. Sophia and Day reportedly began talking online in April 2024. On July 29th, 2024, Sophia told her parents she was going to stay with a friend in the Beaver Dam area. In reality, she was picked up by Day and driven to his residence in Austin, Arkansas.

Gary Day. (ABC News)

Day was already on probation at this point due to a child endangerment charge from 2020. A probation officer made a routine stop by Day's home during December 2024 and noticed a young girl running out of the back of the residence. It was eventually learned that the young girl was Sophia; a 16-year-old from Wisconsin. Sophia eventually told officers that she had been there since August and planned to marry Day.

Sophia's parents were reportedly shocked to learn of their daughter's relationship with Day, as they thought she had been staying with a friend in the local area. Sophia was subsequently returned to her family's home in Wisconsin. An order of protection was put in place, forbidding Day and Sophia to have contact.

At some point in the midst of all this, Sophia learned she was pregnant with Day's child. The child was conceived in Arkansas - where the age of consent is 16 - so Day was not charged with statutory rape. It's believed that Sophia was approximately 3 months along at the time the February 2025 AMBER alerts were issued.

Despite the order of protection, Day and Sophia continued to have contact via text and email after her return to Wisconsin. Then, in early February 2025, the two met up in person once again. Day drove to Wisconsin and was captured by home security cameras walking by the Franklin's house on the morning of February 3rd.

Source: Beaver Dam PD

Shortly thereafter, Sophia was discovered to be missing from the home. An AMBER alert was immediately issued in the state of Wisconsin, asking the public to be on the lookout for a black 2014 Buick LaCrosse. The car had recently been seen using two different plates: Pennsylvania KGW5186 and Arkansas BBR20L.

--
February 4th, 2025: Gary Day is charged.

On February 4th, 2025, the Dodge County District Attorney filed two felony charges against Gary Day: 2 counts of child enticement and one count of child abduction. The first child enticement charge count is dated as July 29th, 2024 - the first time Day picked Sophia up and brought her to Arkansas. The second enticement charge count is dated February 3rd, 2025.

February 6th-7th, 2025: The AMBER Alert is extended across states.

On February 6th, 2025, the AMBER alert for Sophia was issued in Arkansas as well - noting that Gary Day is from there, and he had traveled there with Sophia in the past.

The following day, the AMBER alert was extended to Missouri, as it was believed that the two had traveled through there. There was a potential sighting of Day's car in Springfield, but it remains unconfirmed.

February 9th, 2025: Gary Day's phone pings one final time.

On February 10th, authorities confirmed that Gary Day's phone was active in Arkansas the previous day - February 9th, 2025. However, the phone has since been shut off and has not pinged again. This gave investigators a potential lead on Sophia and Day being in Arkansas, but the possibility that they are traveling/hiding through other states remains as well.

February 12th, 2025 - April 3rd, 2025: the whereabouts of Sophia and Day are unknown.

On February 12th, 2025, a missing persons poster/flyer for Sophia was distributed across the United States. At this point, Sophia's abduction made national news.

Click or tap to enlarge.

There were obvious concerns about Sophia being with Day - not only is he an adult and she is a minor, but he also has a history of abusing children. In 2020, he was arrested after his 4-month-old child was found to have a broken femur bone. Though Day denied the charges, it is believed that he caused said injury.

April 3rd, 2025: Sophia is found.

On April 3rd, 2025, it was reported that Sophia and Gary Day were both found alive in Nebraska. Reports state that a couple grew suspicious after speaking with Sophia at a truck stop and called police. Sophia and Day were eventually located, and Day was taken into custody.

Day is being charged with two counts of abduction of a child and two counts of child enticement causing mental/bodily harm. His case is pending.
