Rachel Galbreath (33) was found murdered inside her South Holland, Illinois apartment on May 9th, 2014. The young woman was known to many as a huge animal lover, and she worked at a dog grooming salon prior to her death. Rachel was scheduled to work on the morning of May 9th, but she never showed up. Knowing this was unlike her, one of Rachel's co-workers stopped by her apartment to check on her. Once the co-worker entered the apartment, she came across a horrific scene: Rachel was dead in her living room. Her body was laying in a pool of her own blood. Investigators determined that Rachel had been brutally beaten to death. She had been hit over 20 times by a blunt force object.
It was clear that whoever had killed Rachel did so out of rage. Due to this, it is not believed that her murder was random. In fact, Rachel's family members immediately had a suspect in mind: Rachel's ex-boyfriend. The two had a tumultuous on-and-off relationship that lasted for about 8 years. During their time together, the boyfriend was reportedly violent towards Rachel on numerous occasions. Her family members stated that he was incredibly jealous and controlling as well. Rachel kicked him out of her home just weeks before her murder.
On May 5th, 2014--just four days before her murder--Rachel posted the following on Facebook: "I really need to rant for a minute here. I've decided that the next man I date needs a job, a good work ethic and history. He needs to take pride in where he lives and be able to pass a mental evaluation. Leos need not apply. It's going to be nice to come home to a house that's as clean as it was when I left it. Also will be fantastic not worrying about someone going through my stuff and stealing my cigarettes." This post was clearly referencing the end of a relationship. It appeared that Rachel was finally ready to move on. She was killed just days later.
Although the ex-boyfriend has not been publicly identified, Rachel's loved ones have posted about him in a Facebook group dedicated to receiving justice for Rachel. Her loved ones stated that Rachel's ex was sole beneficiary of her life insurance policy--which was activated just 30 days before the murder. The ex-boyfriend also got married just three months after Rachel's death.
Investigators have not named this man--or anyone--as a suspect in the case. A few different lead investigators have been in charge of the case in the years following Rachel's death. An abundance of evidence has reportedly been "tested and retested", but according to investigators, they have found "no physical evidence that links any one person to the murder."
Rachel's family members continue to fight for justice. If you have any information that could help lead to an arrest in Rachel's case, please go here to submit an anonymous tip.

Eight years of abuse and Rachael never left??????????
ReplyDeleteShe wasnt dating him for 8 years. He was a friend / roommate for most of that time. What no one mentions is she was dating a friend of his before that...whom she actually WAS dating for about 7 years.
ReplyDeleteThe podcast is mostly true, but there is enough false statements made ( by her family) that makes me question "who are they protecting"? Or are they really that unaware of the things and people Rachel was in loved in/ with.
ReplyDeleteOhh, if you know something that could help...that'd be awesome. They may not have known because I think they were just rebuilding a relationship with her when this happened. Hmm...
DeleteWhat do you believe to be the false statements by her family and who was Rachel in love with? There are a few things in the media and this article that are not correct and here are some. Yes, she never showed up, but that not really how she was discovered that morning. Rachel was schedule to be at work at 8am and it was raining (She walks to work with her 3 dogs daily or gets a ride from her "roommate" who also works with her) so her boss tried to call her to see if she wanted to ride and she wasn't answering her phone so her boss got worried. Her and her coworker went to the house down the block and no one was answering so they call the police for a welfare check. The police came and circled the house and checked for signs a forced entry and concluded there was nothing they could do and told them to call her landlord for a key. Her "roommate/ex-boyfriend/the only person of interest" that just moved out that Sunday and the night prior; claims to have given back his key. So they did just that, call her landlord Bill and he headed over to the house within the hour, when Bill got to the house, when her co-worker went through the 2nd entry to her low-level duplex and found her in the doorway between the kitchen and dining/living room and she was laying in a pool of blood and she was hit more than 20 times in the head.
ReplyDeleteThe part about him being the boyfriend was also incorrect as they hadn't been dating for some time and he had moved back in and out within that 8 year span, but that's not to say they weren't with each other everyday and spent an enormous amount of time together. Her friends found a wedding registry online and that he was set to get married in July to what they thought was an old ex girlfriend and this was a big shock to all of them since they were all friends and hung out frequently. That was the last straw, she was sick of paying for everything, sick of the way he had been acting recently and she told him to move out.
The guy she was dating before him was out of the country with his wife, that is how she met this current roommate, was through him and they grew up together. She she worked with both these guys at the kennel, I cant remember how often her old boyfriend worked, but I thinks I just one day a week where Rachel worked full time. Rachel and this "roommate" actually made a nice little commercial, so you can actually check them out on YouTube together at the Loubelle's kennel.
And not everyone one was rebuilding a relationship her, some of her family was rebuilding a relationship with her. I know a lot about this case and I would love some new theories or ideas, this is coming up on 12 year and everyone wants justice for this horrendous crime, she didn't deserve this and someone needs to be held accountable.
