List Series: Disappeared in Distress Vol. II

As explained in the original Disappeared in Distress list, missing persons' investigations often focus on the actions & behaviors of a person prior to their disappearance. Family members and close friends of the missing person are often interviewed during this process in order to provide insight into the missing person's mood and the events leading up to the disappearance. There are quite a few cases in which investigators learn that a person was in distress before disappearing, and oftentimes these individuals behaved quite uncharacteristically before vanishing without a trace. These cases are often quite daunting and lead to more questions than answers. Below is a list of 5 more such cases in which an individual disappeared while in distress.

Terrence Woods Jr.

Terrence Woods Jr. vanished at the age of 26 on October 5th, 2018. At the time of his disappearance, Terrence was working as a production assistant for the British docu-series Gold Rush: White Water. The series was being filmed around Pinman Mine in Orogrande, Idaho.

Terrence's co-workers said that he was acting 'strangely' before his disappearance. As the film crew was wrapping up for the day, Terrence reportedly took off running towards a nearby cliff. When his co-workers went over to the cliff to see if he had fallen, they noticed he was already 15 feet down the cliff, running towards the woods. Some of the crew members waited by a nearby main road to see if Terrence would emerge from the woods. He never did, and he was reported missing by 5:30pm that evening.

Terrence's loved ones are baffled by his disappearance. His family members said that his actions that led to his disappearance were completely uncharacteristic of him. He reportedly did not have a history of mental illness or drug use. However, the 911 call log regarding Terrence's disappearance stated that "Terrence has been having a really hard time emotionally and had a mental breakdown earlier today." There is no further elaboration about this alleged mental breakdown.

A widespread search of the area where Terrence disappeared turned up no evidence. He remains missing today. [read more]

Nancy Bromet

Nancy Bromet has been missing since November 2015. Prior to her disappearance, the 37 year-old woman lived in Sunrise, Florida. However, she vanished in the midst of a cross-country move to Bakersdale, California with her boyfriend Jesus Julio Cruz.

Cruz and Nancy left Florida together on November 12th, 2015.  Nancy did not have a cell phone of her own, so she used Cruz's cell phone to communicate with her family. She last spoke to her family members on November 17th, 2015. Nancy used Cruz's phone to call her sister, and she indicated that she was in distress. After that call, Nancy's father spoke to Cruz and said that he would buy Nancy a plane ticket home if Cruz dropped her off at the airport. Upon hearing that suggestion, Nancy was heard asking Cruz "well, what do you think?" before the phone call dropped. When Nancy's father called back later, Cruz told him that Nancy was asleep. Nancy's family members have never seen or heard from her again.

Cruz later told Nancy's family members that they arrived in California on November 19th, 2015. He explained that, the following day, he dropped Nancy off at a shopping center in El Centro so she could buy groceries while he made deliveries in his truck. Cruz stated that when he returned to the shopping center two hours later, Nancy was nowhere to be found. Her family members reported her missing two days later, on November 22nd. The El Centro Police Department is handling Nancy's case, though her family members question whether or not she ever made it to California at all.  They believe it's possible that something might have happened to her following that final phone call on November 17th. Nancy's disappearance remains unsolved. Heather Cameron mysteriously vanished on August 18th, 2012. The 28 year-old was last seen in the company of her ex-boyfriend, Daniel Lusby. Heather told her family that she and Daniel were headed to Keswick Dam, a remote area located 20 minutes outside of Redding, California. Around 2:50pm that day, Heather called 911 three times from Daniel’s phone from the Keswick Dam area. She told police that she had been drugged with heroin and needed assistance. An extensive search was launched in that area, but no signs of Heather or any sort of suspicious activity were found.

Heather struggled with substance abuse prior to her disappearance, but her family members do not believe she is missing on her own accord. She left behind four children who she always made time to see prior to vanishing, and her family does not believe she would abandon them. Daniel, on the other hand, has an extensive criminal record and was allegedly abusive towards Heather throughout their relationship.

Investigators consider Daniel Lusby to be a person of interest in Heather's case, but they have not charged him with anything related to her disappearance. Heather remains missing today. [read more]
