The Disappearance of Jasmine Moody

18-year-old Jasmine Moody was a freshman at Texas Women’s University when she disappeared in Detroit, Michigan on December 4th, 2014. At the time of her disappearance, Jasmine was on a break from school and was visiting her girlfriend, Brittany Gurley, in Brittany’s hometown in Detroit.

Jasmine arrived in Detroit on November 25th, 2014. She spent Thanksgiving and the days following with Brittany and her family. Jasmine was scheduled to return to Texas on December 5th, 2014—the day after her disappearance.

On the night of December 4th, Jasmine and Brittany allegedly got into a heated argument over something Brittany saw on Jasmine’s Facebook. Brittany’s mother, Sonia, claims that she witnessed Brittany storming out of the house to blow off steam during the argument, and then a few minutes later, she witnessed Jasmine storming out of the house as well.

Sonia states that Jasmine had her belongings with her, which suggested that she intended to leave. Brittany, who was still outside, claims that she encountered Jasmine and encouraged her to come back inside, stating that it was dangerous for her to be wandering around Detroit since she was unfamiliar with the area.

In an effort to get Jasmine to stay, Brittany claims she grabbed Jasmine’s belongings from her and headed back to the house, expecting Jasmine to follow. However, Brittany claims that Jasmine did not follow her and that when she returned outside, Jasmine was nowhere to be found.

Jasmine’s mother, Lisa, does not believe Sonia or Brittany’s stories. Lisa maintains that it does not make sense that Jasmine would attempt to leave the night of the 4th when she was already scheduled to return to Texas the next day. She also does not believe that Jasmine would wander the streets of an unfamiliar city by herself. Lisa does believe, however, that Sonia and Brittany know what happened to Jasmine on that night and have not been forthcoming to police.

Years have passed, and Jasmine remains missing. Many suspect that the Gurley family is involved in Jasmine's disappearance, but to this day, nobody has been charged with anything related to Jasmine's case.

There is a monetary reward offered for any information on Jasmine’s whereabouts. If you have any information/a tip, you can report it here.

  1. What the heck is wrong with Detroit Police and Michigan State Police? They should have definitely PRESS ON(question thoroughly), Britney and her mother...This is NOT fair...If Jasmine Moody, were a white/Caucasian 18 year old female from Texas, visiting A ROUGH SIDE OF DETROIT. the police would have questioned “this friend and her mother BY NOW.

The police suck that they let them lie and didn't do a check of the home then and a intense search there was evidence they missed it .Unfortunately Detroit is known for missing girls and they knew that no way that girl left and was already scheduled to leave the next day they know what happened .The reward should be higher that daughter or mom will snitch on each other one day smh poor girl you can not trust people .I had a situation similar glad I left the people I went to see and I knew someone else there any its dangerous out here .

  4. I went to sam houston high school in arlington texas and i was very close friends with jasmine moody. we graduated in 2014 and attended texas womans university together in 2014. I advised Jasmine not to visit brittany simply because brittany's behavior towards jasmine was very detrimental. She threatened to commit suicide if jasmine ever left her, she blew up her phone if she didnt want to talk to her and she was verbally abusive. is there a way to look at old phone records? if so, their will be photos sent from brittany to jasmine. photos of bruises, blood and cuts. brittany would harm herself to get jasmine to talk to her. THIS ALL HAPPENED IN MY DORM ROOM!! I dropped out of college due to depression. We need Justice. Fuck the system. brownbrown13434@gmail.com

If you haven't already, I urge you to contact Jasmine's family or to leave an anonymous tip with this information. I know many have their suspicions about Brittany, but I think any first hand information would help! if you'd like to chat more feel free to email me at truecasefiles@gmail.com

  5. Hello, I am a student in Criminal Justice in Florida. I came across this story, and I cannot believe there hasn't been more of an investigation. This is truly sad. Why hasn't our justice system tried harder, what the hell is going on here. This story seems very suspicious, and someone needs to do something about this. I will pray for her family and her " true" friends, that they find her killer. The truth always comes out eventually.

    1. I completely agree! This is such a sad case, but it seems very solvable. I can't believe this much time has passed without any answers.

  6. The system is terrible. I don’t understand why the girl she went to visit isn’t locked up. It’s clear she or her family did it. This sad and both scary.
