The Disappearance and Murder of Jamie Haggard

Jamie Haggard (27) was last seen alive by her loved ones on June 9th, 2016. Prior to her disappearance, Jamie lived in Kenmore, Washington, where she split custody of her twin daughters with their father. On the day she was last seen, Jamie was visiting her father Lee Haggard in Bothell—a town located roughly 15 minutes away from Kenmore. According to Lee, Jamie seemed sad that day. The father and daughter spent time with other extended family members that day, but Jamie’s somber mood did not seem to improve. Jamie eventually left that afternoon, after telling her family she was headed home. She has never been seen or heard from again. Jamie was officially reported missing on June 17th, 2016 after her family members were unable to get in touch with her.

According to Jamie’s family, she had been depressed in the months leading up to her disappearance. She had recently broken up with her fiancé, and was reportedly unhappy with both where she lived and the people in the area. Despite her depression, Lee said that Jamie was still very dedicated to spending time with her daughters. She had a good relationship with the twins’ father, Jake Rose, as well. Jamie and Jake had broken up years earlier, but ever since had been successfully coparenting. Jamie’s family members did not believe that she would leave her daughters behind, and Jamie was considered missing under suspicious circumstances.

About a month after her disappearance, King County Sheriff’s Office excavated the backyard of Jamie’s home. It is unclear what tips or evidence led investigators to excavate, but it ended up being a dead end; no remains or any other clues were located. About a year later, there was another backyard search at a different home. On May 25th, 2017, the King County Sheriff’s Office tweeted, “New information had led detectives to search section of backyard at house in 8200 blk of NE 145 St in Kenmore.” A later tweeted stated that nothing of interest was found during this search either.

A year after that search, in May 2018, a Snohomish County litter cleanup team found a suitcase, a blanket and a decomposed body in the woods on Downes Road. On July 20th, 2018, authorities confirmed that the remains were that of Jamie Haggard. She was found just 11 miles way from her home. Jamie’s death was ruled a homicide, but her exact cause of death has not been released. An investigation is ongoing.

Jamie's case remains unsolved.

UPDATE: In October 2019, Jamie's brother David Haggard was arrested and charged with Jamie's murder. The two reportedly lived together around the time of Jamie's disappearance, and they often argued about their house and drug use. Just days before her disappearance, Jamie told friends that she feared for her life. Another friend reportedly called the police after David allegedly sent him a picture of Jamie tied up in a bathtub. By time the police arrived at the house, Jamie denied that her brother had hurt her and instead blamed it on another roommate in the house.

According to court documents, Jamie and David fought on the morning of her disappearance--and then Jamie's loved ones never saw or heard from her again. Prosecutors believe that David killed Jamie that day before dismembering her and setting her remains on fire. He remains behind bars as the charges are pending.

  1. So which is it? Her decomposed body was found in the woods, or she was dismembered and set on fire?

    1. it can be both. your body can decompose after it's been burned.
