Janiyah Thompson has been missing since April 25th, 2023. The then-18-year-old was last seen in Temple Hills, Maryland. Before vanishing, Janiyah told her brother she was headed off to take care of something. She never returned home, and her loved ones have never seen or heard from her again.
At the time of her disappearance, Janiyah was a student at Eastern Senior High School and a member of their ROTC program. There does not appear to be a lot of additional information about her life prior to her going missing; however, various reports describe Janiyah as a hardworking and responsible teenage girl. Due to this, Janiyah's disappearance came as a complete shock to her family members.
The day Janiyah vanished seemingly began as a typical day. She went to school that morning as usual. At some point before the school day ended, Janiyah messaged her older brother and said she was leaving early because she needed to go take care of something. She reportedly did not disclose what she needed to do, but her brother was initially not concerned due to Janiyah's intelligent and trustworthy nature.
By the time the next morning came, and Janiyah still had not returned home, her family began to worry. Several attempts were made to locate/reach Janiyah, but they ended unsuccessfully. As such, Janiyah's family contacted police to report her missing.
After she was reported missing, it was discovered that Janiyah was captured by surveillance cameras at Naylor Road Metro Station in Temple Hills shortly after leaving her school. At this time, it is unknown if she boarded a train or if she was seen with anyone at the station.
The sighting at the metro station is the last known trace of Janiyah before she vanished. Some reports about her disappearance state that authorities believe she might still be in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area, but it is unknown why they might believe that. Janiyah did not have a history of running away prior to vanishing. According to her parents, it is incredibly out of character for her to stay out of touch.
The Prince George County Police Department is in charge of investigating Janiyah's disappearance. If you have any information that could lead to her whereabouts, please contact authorities at 301-352-1200.
