Kayla Mason vanished at the age of 23 on July 30th, 2019. At the time of her disappearance, Kayla lived with her grandparents in Toledo, Ohio. She had recently been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, but it appeared to her family that Kayla was coping well, as she was working full-time and regularly visiting her four-year-old daughter, who lived with Kayla's mother.
Kayla's family members immediately became concerned when they learned she had not shown up to her job. Kayla also left behind a note at her grandparents' house that said she was bad at goodbyes. She never returned home and has never been seen or heard from again.
Kayla reportedly left with an inactive cell phone, a tent, and some clothes. The majority of her other personal belongings were left behind. Kayla's family members were extremely concerned for her wellbeing, but they were initially unable to get any help from police. When they first tried to report Kayla as missing, police told them that she did not fit the criteria to be classified as missing due to the fact that she was an adult and she left behind a note that indicated she left on her own accord.
Over the next five months, Kayla's family members had to investigate on their own. They spoke to Kayla's friends and called jails and hospitals - but were unable to find anyone who had seen or spoken to Kayla. In December 2019, Toledo police finally agreed to investigate Kayla's disappearance, and she was officially listed as a missing person.
Since then, very few details about the investigation have been revealed. Kayla remains missing today and her family is still searching for answers. If you have any information that could help the investigation, please contact Toledo police at 419-245-3340.
