The Disappearance of Stephanie Lewis

 

Stephanie Lynn Lewis has been missing since October 12th, 2004. The then-21-year-old was in Lumberton, North Carolina at the time of her disappearance. She worked at a local Days Inn on Roberts Avenue.

Stephanie was working the day she vanished. She was last seen walking away from her job at the Days Inn. Before leaving, Stephanie reportedly told others that she was going to try and find a ride to Virginia. She never returned and has never been seen or heard from again.

There is very little information available on Stephanie's disappearance. Various online sources state that she was single at the time she vanished. She left behind a young daughter. There does not appear to be any information about why Stephanie wanted to travel to Virginia, if she intended to ask someone she knew for a ride, or if she intended to hitchhike. 

In 2017, the Lumberton PD made a public appeal for anyone with information about Stephanie's disappearance to come forward. Since then, it appears that there has not been any additional reporting on her case. Stephanie remains missing today, and her case has unfortunately gone cold.

The Disappearance of Danielyelle Jolene White

 

Danielyelle Jolene White has been missing since the spring of 2004. The then-23-year-old was living in Killeen, Texas at the time of her disappearance. Reports state that Danielyelle lived on 22nd Street and also often frequented the Gilmer Street area. 

Danielyelle was reported missing in June 2004 by a man named Ernest T. Turner, who claimed to be her father. Throughout the investigation, detectives determined that Danielyelle was last seen in Killeen on May 21st, 2004. Detectives also learned that Turner is not actually Danielyelle's biological father, and it's unclear why he told authorities that they are related.

Reports indicate that Danielyelle's family members were not notified about her disappearance for several months. An article from 2005 states that Danielyelle's mother, Sharon Clark, learned on December 1st, 2004, that her daughter had been reported missing by Ernest T. Turner. Clark told authorities that she had not seen Danielyelle since April 2004.

Danielyelle's last encounter with her mother occurred at a courthouse in Belton. At the time, Danielyelle was reportedly struggling with substance abuse and various other mental health issues. The court subsequently gave custody of Danielyelle's son to her mother. The court also banned Danielyelle from living in the home with her son. As a result, she moved in with Turner. 

Family and friends of Danielyelle grew very concerned upon learning that she had been missing for several months. According to her mother, Danielyelle had been committed to mental health facilities 21 times in the years leading up to her disappearance. In addition to her struggles with mental health and substance abuse, Danielyelle also reportedly had associations with local gangs. All of these circumstances raised concerns for Danielyelle's safety from both her loved ones and investigators.

Over two decades have passed, and Danielyelle's case remains unsolved. There are still very few details available about the events leading up to her disappearance. The investigation is still open, though it's considered a cold case.

The Disappearance of Ande Fan

 

Ande Fan has been missing since August 8th, 2004. The then-31-year-old man was last seen in New Haven, Connecticut. At the time of his disappearance, Ande resided in New Haven at an assisted living facility called Bella Vista. The last known sighting of Ande occurred at the residence. He has never been seen or heard from again.

Ande is originally from China but had been living in New Haven since 1998. He regularly kept in touch with his mother, who was still living in China at the time of his disappearance. Ande also regularly kept in touch with his sister, who lived in San Francisco, California. Ande's sister reportedly spoke on the phone with him just a few days before his disappearance - and nothing seemed unusual during the call.

After Ande was reported missing, it was discovered that he left behind many of his personal items, including his passport, cash, keys, ATM card, and his other form of identification. Although he had expressed desire to return to China prior to his disappearance, there is no evidence to suggest he traveled there; especially as his passport was left behind. 

Ande was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and was receiving services from both his living facility, the Bella Vista, and the Continuum of Care of New Haven. Staff at Bella Vista did not notice anything unusual about Ande's behavior prior to his disappearance. There is no evidence to suggest he harmed himself.

An employee from Bella Vista noted that she last saw Ande at the facility, accompanied by a man she did not recognize. She later told reporters, "I said ‘Hi,’ and that was the last time I saw him. I’m not sure if it was the same day he disappeared. He could have come home and then gone out again.” The man Ande was with has never been identified.

The Disappearance of Elizabeth Prescott

 

Elizabeth Prescott has been missing since April 30th, 2004. The then-19-year-old was last seen at her residence in Panama City, Florida. Elizabeth's husband, Coy Prescott, said that he saw her at the apartment shortly before he left for work at 6:00 AM. When he returned around 4:00 PM that afternoon, Elizabeth was gone. She has never been seen or heard from again. 

According to Coy, nothing appeared unusual in the residence when he returned home. There were reportedly no signs of a struggle in the apartment. A wet towel was in the bathroom, which indicated the shower had recently been used. Nothing was missing from the residence except $50 cash. All of Elizabeth's personal items were left behind as well.

Elizabeth did not tell Coy or anyone else about any plans she had to leave or go anywhere that day. She did have plans to celebrate her husband's birthday, which was the day after she disappeared. In fact, Elizabeth reportedly asked Coy to call her an hour before his workday ended so she could finish preparing for his birthday celebration. Reports note that Coy called the home around 2:30 PM, but the call went unanswered.

Elizabeth and Coy had only been married for about 2 months before she vanished. Prior to that, Elizabeth had a long-term relationship with another man named Eric Moore. Eric later told police that he and Elizabeth continued to see each other even after she married Coy. There has been inevitable speculation that one of these men might be responsible for Elizabeth's disappearance. Neither man has been ruled out; however, they have both passed polygraph exams. 

An incarcerated man named Ivan Ferrer-Perdomo later bragged to inmates that he killed Elizabeth after she showed up at his home looking for drugs. When investigators questioned him about this, he reportedly refused to cooperate. Still, investigators have been unable to find any link between him and Elizabeth. 

Elizabeth did not have access to a vehicle at the time of her disappearance. She also did not have a cell phone or any credit cards. Elizabeth is described as a petite woman with blonde hair and blue eyes. At the time of her disappearance, she was approximately 5'2" and 110 lbs.

The Disappearance of Giovanna Tyler

Giovanna Tyler has been missing since March 28th, 2004. The then-29-year-old was last seen at her home in Tacoma, Washington. Giovanna was reported missing by family members on April 15th, 2004, after it was determined that nobody in her circle had seen or heard from her in over two weeks. 

Prior to vanishing, Giovanna was reportedly in a rocky relationship with her husband. Reports note that she would often leave him for short periods of time to stay with friends. In August 2003, Giovanna filed for an order of protection against him. The couple seemingly had a pattern of splitting up and coming back together.

Giovanna's husband and their four children moved to Neah Bay, Washington after Giovanna's disappearance. The move was reportedly planned before Giovanna went missing. Still, this, amongst the other aforementioned factors, has created inevitable suspicion against Giovanna's husband. However, reports state that he has been cooperative with police throughout the investigation. 

In 2024 - twenty years after Giovanna's disappearance - her case was added to the FBI's kidnappings/missing persons list. The FBI bulletin states that "investigators have been unable to locate her or any persons who have had contact with her." The bureau is also offering a monetary reward of up to $10,000 in exchange for information that leads to Giovanna's whereabouts and/or the persons responsible for her disappearance.

The Disappearance of KaRhonda Walker Stringfellow

KaRhonda Walker Stringfellow has been missing since November 11th, 2004. The then-21-year-old was last seen in Dubach, Louisiana, at an apartment complex called the Dubach Apartments. She has never been seen or heard from again.

Details about the events surrounding KaRhonda's disappearance are scarce. There are also very few details available about KaRhonda herself. What is known is that she was a well-rounded individual prior to going missing. She was involved in student government while she was a student at Dubach High School. KaRhonda also graduated at the top of her class in 2001.

About a year after graduating, KaRhonda gave birth to a baby boy named Kamron - who unfortunately passed away during infancy. It appears that KaRhonda married Kamron's father - Dion Stringfellow - at some point afterwards. Kamron's obituary lists his mother as KaRhonda Walker, but by the time she vanished, her name was listed as KaRhonda Stringfellow.

KaRhonda vanished approximately two years after her son's death. Other than that, there is very little information about her case. No suspects or persons of interest have ever been publicly identified - though various reports state that foul play is suspected.

The Disappearance of Gwendolyn Carswell

 

Gwendolyn Carswell has been missing since August 17th, 2004. The then-44-year-old woman lived in Washington, D.C. at the time of her disappearance. She was last seen in the 2600 block of 18th and Otis Street NE. Gwendolyn left her home that evening after telling her mother she was going to a party. She never returned and has never been seen or heard from again.

Gwendolyn's family describes her as a loving and helpful person who was devoted to raising her children. She was also very outgoing and had a lot of friends. When days passed and Gwendolyn had still not returned home, nor had she been in touch with anyone in her close circle, her family knew something was wrong. Gwendolyn was subsequently reported missing by her mother and brother.

Over 20 years have passed, and Gwendolyn still remains missing. Foul play is suspected in her disappearance. In fact, police believe that Gwendolyn was likely targeted and/or harmed by someone she knew. However, no suspects or persons of interest have been publicly named. 

Various sources also note that Gwendolyn was a victim of a violent crime in the late 1980s. In August 2024, the senior detective on the case said that "his team is looking into whether [the '80s crime] is linked", but since then, no follow-up on that has been provided. Further information about this violent crime is unavailable.

A cold case unit is now in charge of investigating Gwendolyn's case. Investigators have appealed to the public for anyone with information about Gwendolyn's disappearance to come forward. The Disappearance of Lucero Sarabia

Lucero "Princess" Sarabia has been missing since November 26, 2004. At the time of her disappearance, the 21-year-old woman was eight months pregnant. Before she vanished, Princess attended a Thanksgiving party at the San Antonio, Texas, home of her ex-girlfriend's cousin. During the gathering, she got into an altercation with another female guest and was subsequently asked to leave.

A man that Princess met at the party named Richard Anthony Chabes Jr. offered to give her a ride home, which she accepted. Around 2:00 AM, Princess called her mother and told her that she was at Chabes' apartment and that he was going to drive her home sometime soon. Unfortunately, Princess never returned home and has never been seen or heard from again. 

Family members reported Princess missing later that day, prompting police to question Chabes. He told investigators that around 6:00 AM, Princess chose to walk home from his apartment—located about a mile and a half from her house—instead of accepting a ride. Just a few days later, Chabes abruptly packed his belongings and moved out of the apartment. 

When investigators searched the premises, they discovered blood on the walls and carpet. However, the amount of blood was insufficient to suggest a fatal injury. It remains unclear if forensic testing was conducted on the blood. Despite these findings, Chabes has never been publicly labeled as a suspect by police. Some reports state that he has been cleared of suspicion, but a reasoning for this has not been provided. 

At the time of her disappearance, Princess was married but living with her parents, as she was separated from her husband, John Albert Reeves Jr. The couple had two children together, and Princess was pregnant with their third child when she went missing. Despite their separation, reports indicate that Princess and John were still seeing each other. However, it does not appear that John is considered a suspect or person of interest in her disappearance at this time.

The Disappearance of Renee Yeargain

Renee Yeargain has been missing since August 9th, 2004. The then-24-year-old woman was last seen in Torrington, Wyoming. Renee has never been seen or heard from again.

At the time of her disappearance, Renee was living in Torrington with Josh Minter - her boyfriend and father of her youngest child. Renee was determined to be missing after Minter dropped off her three older children - who aren't biologically his - at their former foster home. The foster parents subsequently contacted the Wyoming Department of Family Services. 

Police had a conversation with Minter on August 10th, 2004, during which he told officers that Renee abandoned him and her four children. Minter explained that she left with a grocery sack full of clothing and refused to say where she was going. Police reportedly took Minter's word and did not do much to corroborate his version of events.

On August 12th, 2004, Renee's car was found parked at a rest stop between Torrington and Cheyenne. The keys were found inside the vehicle, as were several of Renee's personal items - including her wallet, identification, and cell phone. The only things that appeared to be missing were Renee's tattoo kit and the reported bag of clothes that Minter said she had when she left their home. 

It was eventually determined that the car had been at the rest stop since August 10th - two days before it was reported to police. Authorities learned that witnesses had seen the car parked there, but it does not appear that anyone reporting seeing Renee. The vehicle is the last known trace of Renee, yet it is unknown if she drove the car there herself. 

Two decades have passed, and Renee remains missing.  Her loved ones are left with several unanswered questions, namely: What happened to Renee? Additionally, a look into the details of how Renee's case was handled by police leads to another question: Would Renee's case be solved if police had acted sooner?

Before Renee's disappearance.

Various reports indicate that Renee had something of a rough past prior to her disappearance. She reportedly had taken off without warning years before. Renee had struggled with drug addiction, and as result, had lost custody of her children.

However, according to Renee's loved ones, she reportedly worked very hard to get her children back and was in a good place at the time of her 2004 disappearance. Renee had recently gotten a license to operate a tattoo business from home. She also reportedly planned to marry her boyfriend Josh Minter on August 22nd - a little less than two weeks after her disappearance. 

It appears that Renee's life was headed in a positive direction during the summer 2004. Still, according to Renee's brother, there were some concerns about her relationship with Minter. The couple had been together for three years prior to Renee's disappearance, and their relationship was not without drama. In fact, Renee's brother spoke on a podcast in 2018 and stated that Renee said Minter was "beating on her" the day before her disappearance. 

This inevitably made Renee's loved ones extremely concerned when they realized she had gone missing. Police, on the other hand, did not seem to have such concerns.

Slow start to the investigation.

Renee's family believes that her past caused police to not investigate her disappearance thoroughly. Renee's mother told reporters that she was "dismissed by officers who assumed Renee would turn up again at some point." 

Reports indicate that Renee's missing person's case was opened on August 10th, 2004 - the day after she was last seen. Still, it does not appear that there was an urgency to locate her. In fact, it took several months for Renee's disappearance to make local front-page news. A 2022 report on Renee's case states that "It wasn’t until Friday, April 15, 2005 that an article prominently appeared on the front page of the Torrington Telegram headlined, “Torrington woman missing since August.” 

Although police might have initially believed Renee was missing on her own accord, her family and friends have never believed this to be true. Many maintain that she would not have voluntarily abandoned her children; nor would she have gone this long without contacting them.

A woman named Jess Oaks is amongst those who do not believe Renee is missing on her own accord. Oaks is a reporter for a Wyoming newspaper, but prior to that, she worked at a restaurant with Renee. When Oaks learned of Renee's disappearance, she began to do some digging of her own. 

Oaks eventually told reporters that, four years after Renee's disappearance, police had still not made any progress. Oaks explained, "No evidence had been obtained. No evidence had been collected, no evidence had been checked in or checked out regarding Renee’s disappearance."

Even after that, it appears that several more years passed before any other significant movement in Renee's case. That movement happened over a decade later in 2018.

2018: a new search for Renee.

During 2018, co-director of Goshen County Sheriff Search and Rescue, Jerry Numon, became involved in Renee's case. At that time, a private investigator received permission to search property belonging to Josh Minter's mother. The private investigator enlisted Numon and his cadaver dog, Pax, to scour the property.

According to Numon, Pax indicated twice that that he smelled human remains. After that, police obtained a warrant and came to the property with digging equipment. A report from News Nation explained that during their search, "they found water underground. Pax would hit the hole, where water was rushing in, and alert." 

That same report states that, much to Numon's dismay, "Police determined whatever Pax was smelling must be coming from upstream. So they covered the hole and left the property."

Numon said that he was outraged police did not investigate further. It appears that police have dismissed any allegation pointing towards Josh Minter from the beginning of the case. While it seems police seeming accepted Minter's version of events regarding Renee's disappearance, Numon said that one of Renee's daughters told a very different story.

Numon told reporters, "the daughter remembered this guy Josh throwing her stuff in the car and he drove away with it. Somebody else brought him back to the house." If the daughter's recollection is correct, this opens the possibility that it was actually Josh Minter who drove and parked Renee's car at the rest stop.

More unanswered questions.

The information shared by Numon, combined with the results of the 2018 search at the Minter property, has brought about even more questions regarding Renee's disappearance and Josh Minter's potential involvement. If police had investigated Minter's version of events, would they have searched the property sooner? If so, would Renee have been found?

By the time the Minter property was searched in 2018, over 14 years had passed since Renee's disappearance - leaving plenty of time for evidence to deteriorate or be washed away by water.

A cold case.

At this time, Josh Minter has never been charged with anything related to Renee's disappearance - nor has anyone. Renee remains a missing person. Her loved ones have still not given up on the search for answers.

The Disappearance of Jennifer and Adrianna Wix

Jennifer and Adrianna Wix have been missing since March 25th, 2004. The mother and daughter were reportedly last seen together between 9:00 and 9:30 PM that evening in Cross Plains, Tennessee. Since then, the whereabouts of Jennifer, then 21, and Adrianna, then 2, remain a mystery to this day.

At the time of their disappearance, Jennifer and Adrianna lived in Cross Plains with Jennifer's boyfriend, Joey Benton, and his parents, Joseph and Cindy Benton. Jennifer and Joey reportedly began dating during the summer of 2003. Jennifer and Adrianna moved into the Benton's home in December of 2003 - just a few short months before they vanished.

Family members of Jennifer and Adrianna stated that Jennifer was struggling at the Benton home in the days leading up to her disappearance. In fact, she called her mother on March 24th - the day before she vanished - upset over a fight she had with someone in the Benton family. The next morning, Jennifer called her aunt, Lisa Fierro, and said she no longer wanted to live with the Benton's. 

According to Lisa, Jennifer said she planned to tell Joey that she and Adrianna were going to move out. Lisa explained that Jennifer told her, "If he does not agree for us to leave when he gets home, I’m leaving and I’m coming [to your house].’” Lisa subsequently left a spare key out at her house for Jennifer to use. Jennifer and Adrianna never arrived at the residence.

Later that morning, Jennifer spoke on the phone with her father. During their conversation, Jennifer talked about her fight with the Benton family. She also told her father she was looking forward to seeing him the following week. Nothing about their conversation indicated that the loved ones of Jennifer and Adrianna would never see or hear from them again. However, that phone call was Jennifer's last documented form of contact.

Jennifer and Adrianna are reported missing.

It's clear that Jennifer spoke to several family members - including her mother, father, and aunt - about her struggles at the Benton home. Conversations about these struggles happened all within a 24-hour window prior to Jennifer and Adrianna's disappearance. 

As noted above, Jennifer's aunt Lisa left a spare key in an available spot at her house in case Jennifer and Adrianna needed somewhere to go amidst her struggles with the Benton's. After the two did not show up, Lisa expected Jennifer to at least call her with an update on the situation. However, that call never came.

Jennifer's mother reported both Jennifer and Adrianna missing on March 27th, 2004. Police inevitably wanted to question the Benton family, especially Jennifer's boyfriend, Joey Benton. Joey initially said that Jennifer and Adrianna left the residence on the evening of their disappearance with an "unknown individual". He later told a different story - which inevitably caused even more suspicions about him.

The changed story.

Joey later told police that, on the day of their disappearances, Jennifer asked him to drive her and Adrianna and to a local Cross Plains grocery store so Jennifer could use the phone. Afterwards, they reportedly drove to a nearby Exxon gas station near Exit 112 off Interstate 65. Joey said that he dropped both Jennifer and Adrianna off at the gas station after he and Jennifer got into an argument. 

Joey then said he drove across the street and parked. He explained that, after five to ten minutes passed, he observed Jennifer and Adrianna getting into a white four-door sedan. The driver of said sedan is unknown.

Joey also told police that Jennifer returned to his family's home on March 26th, 2004 - without Adrianna. He claimed that Jennifer drove the car that had picked her and Adrianna up the previous day. She left after collecting a few belongings but said she would return later for her income tax return. According to Joey, this was the last time her ever saw or heard from Jennifer. 

An unverified story. 

Police have never been able to verify Joey's version of events. Not only have they been unable to verify that Jennifer returned to the Benton home on March 26th, they also have been unable to verify that Jennifer and Adrianna were dropped off at the gas station on the evening of March 25th. 

The last known trace of Jennifer and Adrianna appears to be from that phone call that Jennifer had with her father on the morning of March 25th, 2004. This phone call took place around 11:00 AM. What happened to Jennifer and Adrianna after that remains unknown. 

Information from Jennifer's cousin/Joey's co-worker.

On March 25th, 2004, Joey Benton went to his construction job as planned. This is corroborated by Joey's co-worker, Jeff Grayson. Jeff also happens to be Jennifer's cousin; he is the son of Jennifer's aunt, Lisa Fierro. 

According to Jeff, Joey left abruptly while on the job. Jeff told reporters that "Joey got a phone call and had to leave. It was really fast. It was really — something happened, you know? ‘We gotta go, I gotta go,’ you know? It was really, really, really, really urgent.”

It's unclear what, exactly, prompted Joey to leave his job so abruptly. However, it appears that this happened after Jennifer's last known contact with her father at 11:00 AM. 

Unanswered questions and a cold case.

Although many people have suspicions about the Benton's, no one from the family has been charged with anything related to the disappearance of Jennifer and Adrianna. As months trickled into years without answers, the case quickly became cold. In 2013, it was reclassified as a homicide investigation. 

Police have remained quiet about the status of the investigation. However, in March 2024, it was reported that a search warrant was executed at the Benton home. The search took place over 20 years after Jennifer and Adrianna's disappearance, and it's unclear what, if any, evidence was found.

The search for answers.

Loved ones of Jennifer and Adrianna have never given up on their quest for answers and justice. The investigation is still open. There is a monetary reward available for information that could lead to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for the disappearance of Jennifer and Adrianna.

The Disappearance of Olga Ponomareva

Olga Valeryevna Ponomareva has been missing since April 27th, 2004. The then-22-year-old was last seen in Milkwaukie, Oregon. Olga left her home around 4:00 PM on the day she vanished and never returned. She has never been seen or heard from again. 

Olga lived with her mother in a residence on Southeast Fuller Road. When she left the house that day, she was reportedly headed towards a shopping plaza called the Ross Center on Southeast Causey and 82nd Avenue. The plaza is within walking distance from Olga's residence, and it is reportedly a busy part of the Southgate area.

All of Olga's personal items were left at her residence, including her identification and cash. This indicates that Olga likely intended to return home when she left that afternoon. Olga's mother reported her missing the following day, on April 28th, 2004. 

Olga's Charley Project page states that Olga "may be in Colorado or elsewhere in Oregon." However, two decades have passed without any sign of the young woman. According to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, Olga has not had any known activity since 2004. 

There is otherwise very little information available about the investigation into Olga's disappearance. The news has not reported on Olga's case. Other online resources do not provide any information about Olga's family or other happenings in her life prior to her disappearance. 

Olga's case does have a thread on Websleuths. In 2020, a person in the thread posted they had requested the police report and other records related to Olga's disappearance. The Sheriff's Office reportedly rejected the request due to the case still being open.

The Murder of Angela Nelson-Carroll

Angela Nelson-Carroll was found brutally murdered in Louisville, Kentucky on May 31st, 2004. 

That morning, road crews were picking up garbage off of Gene Snyder Freeway when they spotted upon something unexpected: the body of a young girl. Police were called, and the area was subsequently closed off as a crime scene. A short time later, the body was identified as that of Angela Nelson-Carroll. She was only 17 years old.

Angela's death was labeled a homicide. She suffered head injuries due to blunt force trauma and she also had been strangled. It is believed that Angela was attacked before her body was discarded on the freeway. One of the road crew workers who spotted Angela's body said that it looked like her body had been purposely pushed/rolled down an embankment. 

No suspects have ever been publicly identified in Angela's case. Reports from 2004 state that Angela was married to a man named Robert Carroll. Robert, then 25, was incarcerated at the time of Angela's murder and was quickly ruled out as a suspect. A report on Angela's case from 2014 also references a boyfriend. Specifically, the report states, "at the time of her murder, Angela's boyfriend was questioned but was never named a suspect." 

It was also reported in 2014 that investigators initially had "several persons of interest but each one has been cleared." The same report said that DNA from the crime scene has been entered into the database, but so far, there has not been a match. Since then, it appears that there have not been any updates in Angela's case.

The Murder of Yvonne Torch

The morning of June 9th, 2004 began as a regular day for Yvonne Torch. The 31-year-old woman went to work that day at her business called "His and Hers Hair Salon" in Newburgh, New York. Around 10:00 AM, Yvonne saw a familiar client: her husband's grandmother. That appointment lasted approximately 30 minutes, and the grandmother left the salon before 10:40 AM. The next customer, who arrived around 10:55 AM, stumbled upon a horrific scene: Yvonne was on the floor, laying in a pool of her own blood. It was later determined she had died from blunt force trauma to the head.

Investigators were quickly able to conclude that Yvonne was killed within a small timeframe between salon clients. Still - many other questions remained; namely - who killed her? And why? A motive to kill Yvonne still remains unclear to this day. Yvonne and her husband, Pierre Torch, had lived in the Newburgh area for several years. The two raised Yvonne's daughter from a previous relationship and also had a child of their own. Yvonne opened her salon in 1994 and ran a successful business. By all accounts, she was a beloved member of the community.

Shortly before the murder, Yvonne and Pierre had decided to move their family to Florida. According to Pierre, the two of them were in the beginning stages of planning their move during June 2004. The family would unfortunately never get the chance to start this next chapter, as Yvonne was killed before they even found a new house. 

Detectives thoroughly investigated Pierre as a potential suspect, but he was eventually ruled out. After that, detectives began looking at other potential suspects. In 2022, a detective told Dateline that "there were a lot of possibilities of who could have killed her, but they never really narrowed down the list." It appears that to this day, detectives have not been able to close in on a prime suspect.

The Murder of Silene Eaddy

Silene Eaddy was only 15 years-old when she was brutally murdered during the early morning hours of April 17th, 2004. It was 5:00 AM when authorities in Richland County, South Carolina were notified about a small brush fire. Columbia fire personnel were sent to the area off Highway 378 near Montgomery Lane and Pincushion Road, where they spotted the fire in a wooded area. 

As first responders worked to put out the flames, they noticed the body of a teenage girl was lying facedown in the brush. She had suffered severe trauma to her body. Two days later, it was confirmed that the young victim was Silene. Dental records and a necklace she was wearing helped confirm her identity.

Silene, referred to by friends and family as Erica, had been the victim of a horrific murder. She had been savagely beaten and then set on fire. Medical examiners noted that Silene actually had soot in her lungs at the time of her death, indicating that she was still alive when the fire was lit. It is believed that the fire was set with the purpose of destroying evidence. 

Silene was last seen alive by her family members between 7:00 and 7:30 PM on April 15th, 2004. She left her family's home on foot to walk to a neighbor's house around the corner. Silene was known to walk around the area and chat with neighbors, so this did not seem unusual. Silene's family members grew concerned when she did not return, but they initially waited to contact authorities. The teen reportedly had a habit of running away, but she usually returned within a few days. 

By the time Silene's mother finally did report file a missing persons' report, her body had already been found. At that point, authorities were still working to identify the girl they had found in the brushfire. When detectives were notified about Silene's disappearance, they immediately suspected that she was the unidentified girl. These suspicions were confirmed shortly thereafter. Silene's case was then shifted into a murder investigation.

Who killed Silene?

As previously stated, Silene was only 15 years-old at the time of her tragic death. It is hard to imagine why anyone would kill such a young person in such a horrific manner. Investigators have spent several years trying to find answers, but so far no arrests have been made. 

A look into Silene's background and life at the time of her murder may hold the answers.

Silene 'Erica' Eaddy was a resilient young girl. She spent her early years in the foster system. At age 3, Silene was fostered by a woman named Brenda McCoy. Brenda and her husband officially adopted Silene two years later. The family resided in Columbia, South Carolina, where Silene lived with her adoptive parents and her siblings, Eugene and Destiny. Despite her tough early years, Silene appeared to be a happy child. 

Loved ones described Silene as a caring youngster with a "wonderful spirit". According to her mother Brenda, Silene loved to do various kind things for her parents, such as cooking for them and greeting them at the door. She enjoyed music, art, and writing. Silene was also well-known throughout her community and friendly towards her neighbors.

The early teenage years. 

Like many children going through puberty, Silene's behavior and interests began to shift as she entered her teenage years. These changes were amplified when Silene's adoptive father died of a heart attack. This was obviously traumatizing and devastating for the young girl, as she was very close with her father. According to Brenda, Silene began to "act out" as a result of this great loss.

Silene was a student at Alston-Wilkes Youth Services School in Columbia; a school for at-risk youth. When she entered high school, Silene was initially enrolled at the local Dreher High - but was soon sent to Alston-Wilkes upon referral. Reports state that the teen had of engaging in potentially dangerous behaviors such as hitching rides with men she did not know and running away from home. Brenda has been quoted saying that she believes Silene had fallen in with a "bad crowd" around this time. 

Despite all this, it appeared the teen girl was still, in many ways, a typical teen girl. She participated in her school's Jr. ROTC program and remained interested in the arts. Various neighbors stated that Silene seemed like a very confident girl. She also remained quite friendly and still had many conversations with her people around her neighborhood. 

Silene's disappearance and death.

As previously stated, Silene's family members last saw her alive on the evening of April 15th, 2004. Silene was headed towards a nearby neighbor's house, but very little other information is known. Reports state that Brenda probed her daughter for more information about what she was doing, but Silene brushed her off. 

Due to Silene's habit of running away, Brenda did not immediately call police. She had run away in the past, but she never stayed away for long. However, when Silene did not return after two days, Brenda finally reported her missing. Unbeknownst to both Brenda and investigators, the young girl had already been found deceased. 

Silene could have only been deceased for a short period of time before she was found during the early morning hours of April 17th. Soot was in her lungs at the time of her death, meaning she was alive at the time the fire was set. This leaves a whole window of Silene's time between the evening of April 15th and the morning of April 17th that is unaccounted for. As such, many questions remain: What did Silene do after leaving her house? Who did she see? Who killed her? Why?

Theories.

The neighbor Silene was supposedly visiting on the evening of April 15th has never been publicly identified. It's unclear if investigators are aware of this persons' identity. It is also unknown if any witnesses have ever come forward about Silene's whereabouts/actions between April 15th and 17th. If police have any of this information, it has never been publicly revealed. Still, there is enough information to garner up a few theories.

Brenda's mother said that Silene began hanging out with a "bad crowd" prior to her death. She does not elaborate further on this, but she did mention that she felt Silene might have been afraid of some of these people. Brenda once told reporters, "I knew [Silene] fell in with the wrong crowd of people, so knew in my heart something was not right. I think in some ways, she was afraid because of some of the things she would say, but then she didn’t know how to get out of her situation." Is it possible that Silene was murdered by a member of this "wrong crowd"? Did she know too much information about them?

Other reports state that Silene was known to accept rides from various men in the area. There is also a possibility that she accepted a ride from the wrong person, and ended up killed. However, it should be noted that investigators believe Silene was murdered by somebody she knew. A detective working the case was quoted saying, "[Silene] was searching for a lot of comfort in the wrong places, in the wrong people. People took advantage of her."

Where the case stands today.

As of 2024, no suspects or persons of interest have been publicly named in the case. It appears as if detectives followed several promising leads during the early years of the investigation, but the case has since gone stagnant. 

Brenda McCoy passed away on April 30th, 2020. She died before ever receiving answers in her daughter's case.

The Murder of Nacomie Freeman

Nacomie Freeman was murdered on June 24th, 2004. Her murder remains unsolved to this day.

Nacomie was only 24 years-old at the time of her death. She lived in Phoenix, Arizona. On the day of her death, witnesses reportedly saw Nacomie being pushed out of a moving vehicle in the 1600 block of W. Denton Avenue. Upon a closer look, it was discovered that she had been shot in the stomach. Nacomie was pronounced dead on the scene.

There are very few details available about Nacomie's case. Investigators reportedly have some leads, but not enough information to solve the case. The vehicle Nacomie was pushed out of is described as a "late 1990s-model short-bed truck with the letters J, T and L on the license plate."

The Murder of Delcia Mejia

Delcia Mejia was only 16 years-old when she was murdered inside her family’s Miami, Florida home on September 17th, 2004. The teen was last seen alive by her family the previous evening. Delcia reportedly said goodnight to her mother Delcia Oliva and stepfather Raul Mata around 11pm on September 16th. Delcia’s mother left for work the following morning around 5:30am, but she did not check on Delcia as she believed she was sleeping and did not want to wake her up. 

Delcia’s stepfather Raul left for the home around 7:45am—he also said that he did not check on Delcia before he left, but he also assumed she was asleep. Raul returned to their home less than two hours later, around 9:15am. At this time, Raul reportedly discovered Delcia’s body in her bed. She had been stabbed to death.

Over a decade has passed since Delcia’s death, and police have not made any arrests in connection with her murder.  However, a detective working the case has stated that Raul is a suspect in the case. He has been reportedly been “extensively questioned”, but he has never been charged with anything related to the case. 

However, the detective also stated that they are open to exploring other suspects as well. He explained, “even though common sense dictates that we look at [Raul], I don’t want us to be oblivious to anyone else. I don’t want the people out there to focus all of their attention on Mr. Mata. If there is any bit of information out there that will lead us to another individual, I am all ears” Despite this, though, Raul has still not been ruled out.

A murder weapon was never found, but detectives reportedly have DNA that could lead to a suspect. They are hoping that the advancement in DNA technologies could help them identify the killer. UPDATE (9/27/20):

Raul Mata has been arrested and charged with Delcia's murder. The arrest was made after investigators were able to use new technology to match DNA found under Delcia's fingernails to Raul. This type of technology was reportedly not available to investigators back in 2004 when the murder occurred. 

Investigators believe the murder occurred after Raul made several inappropriate sexual advances towards Delcia. He later separated from Delcia's mother and moved to California where he started a new life with a new wife and children. Authorities were able to track Raul down, and he was arrested in California on September 26th, 2020.     

UPDATE (October 2020):

Shortly after his arrest, Raul Mata used a pen to stab himself in the femoral artery. He was transferred to a hospital where he later died from his injuries. 

The Murder of Brittany Phillips

Brittany Phillips was only 18 years old when she was raped and murdered at her apartment on September 27th, 2004. Prior to her death, Brittany was a college student living in Tulsa, Oklahoma. On the night of September 27th, Brittany spoke with her mother on the phone at about 9pm. Everything appeared fine during their conversation—Brittany complained about having bad allergies, but there was no indication that she sensed any sort of danger.

Unfortunately, Brittany was in danger. Sometime after that phone call, an unidentified person raped and strangled Brittany inside her own home. It is still unknown if her killer broke in late at night or if he was already in the apartment. It was 3 days before anyone knew Brittany had been killed. She was ultimately discovered on October 1st, 2004, after police conducted a welfare check and found her body on her bedroom floor.

Investigators found DNA at the scene that has been compared to approximately 1 million people in CODIS and no matches have been found. DNA was collected from people in the local area as well, which also returned no matches. Only two people from the area refused to submit their DNA, but when a court order was issued, their samples did not match either.

Brittany’s family and friends were unable to name anyone who they thought might hurt her. She apparently did not have a boyfriend or any enemies. She also did not have a history of drug use.  While it seems likely that Brittany’s killer is somebody she knew, the known people in her life have been questioned and ruled out.

Years have passed since Brittany’s murder and it still remains unsolved. Brittany’s mother is determined to find justice for her daughter and has created a website dedicated to the investigation. The Disappearance & Murder of Tamika Huston

Tamika Huston vanished from Spartanburg, South Carolina during May of 2004. It is believed that Tamika was last seen by her loved ones on or around May 27th, 2004. Due to the fact that she lived alone, it took several days for her family members to realize she was missing. After weeks passed without any contact from Tamika, her aunt reported her missing on June 14th, 2004. 

Spartanburg Police went to Tamika's house after she was reported missing. They reportedly found no signs of a struggle at the home, but they found Tamika's dog with a litter of puppies alone at the residence - and it appeared they had been left alone for quite some time. Police also found Tamika's cell phone, wallet, and uncashed paychecks inside her home. While there otherwise was no outward sign of foul play on the scene, it began to seem more and more likely that something bad had happened to Tamika. 

Six days after Tamika was reported missing, police found her car on the opposite side of town. A set of keys were found inside the car, but the keys did not match the car or Tamika's apartment. Investigators eventually matched the key to the apartment of Christopher Hampton. 

There was initially no clear affiliation between Tamika and Christopher Hampton. However, a friend of Tamika's told investigators that Tamika had recently begun dating a man named Chris prior to her disappearance. The relationship was barely a month old at the time, which is why Tamika's friend was not aware of the man's last name.

The relationship was also not believed to be too serious at that point, as Tamika's family members did not know that she was seeing anybody. Still, investigators did not think it was a coincidence that the tenant of this apartment had the same first name as person Tamika had been seeing before she vanished. Investigators immediately began to look for Hamptom so they could question him.

When investigators were finally able to locate Hamptom, they learned he was already in prison for a parole violation. After questioning him, investigators secured a warrant on his apartment. Inside, they found bloodstains on the carpet. DNA testing eventually confirmed that the blood belonged to Tamika. 

Still, Christopher told investigators that the bloodstains were tabasco sauce and ketchup. Investigators continued to build a case against him as he remained behind bars. In August 2005, the day he was released from prison, Christopher was arrested and charged with Tamika's murder. 

Christopher eventually led investigators to Tamika's body, which he had buried in a wooded area near Tyger River Drive. Despite this, Christopher pleaded not guilty to murder charges. Just minutes before his 2006 trial, though, Christopher ultimately ended up pleading guilty.

Then, it was finally revealed that on May 27th, 2004, Tamika and Christopher got into an argument inside Christopher's apartment. Christopher angrily threw a hot iron at Tamika, causing her to collapse and fall over. Christopher made no attempt to help Tamika; he instead went to a friend's house to drink beer before going to a store to buy cleaning supplies. He later buried Tamika's body in the woods.

Christopher was sentenced to life in prison and remains behind bars.
