The Murder of Reed Rigsby

Reed Rigsby was found deceased inside a residence in Birmingham, Alabama on July 22nd, 2022. Birmingham Police were called shortly after 2:30 PM that day about a person down at a home on the 4500 block of Sixth Avenue South. When first responders arrived, they found a young man deceased from a gunshot wound. That young man was soon identified as 23-year-old Reed Anderson Rigsby.

According to reports, Reed was living with his best friend in Munford at the time of his death. He previously was enrolled at Auburn University but was not a student at the time he was killed. Reed's family members stated that he was working at a packaging company while exploring other options for his future.

The Birmingham residence where Reed was killed was an Airbnb property. Birmingham is an approximate hour-long drive away from Munford, where Reed had been living. A 2023 report on Reed's murder states that both family members and investigators still do not know why he was at the Airbnb that day, or how long he had been there before the shooting.

That same report indicates that a motive for Reed's murder remains unknown as well. It does not appear that anything was stolen from the home when Reed was killed. The only thing investigators/family members have been unable to locate is Reed's Egyptian cartouche necklace, which spells his father's name “Randall” in hieroglyphs. According to his loved ones, Reed was a kind young man who loved meeting new people. Investigators have not identified anyone with whom Reed was having conflict prior to his death.

A public appeal has been made by both investigators and family members for anyone with information about Reed's murder to come forward. A $20,000 reward has been set in exchange for leads that could lead to an arrest.
