Olivia Bergstrom was only 20 years-old when she was brutally murdered by her boyfriend, Benjamin Walsh, on February 10th, 2018. The couple lived together in an apartment in Needham, Massachusetts. It was there that Benjamin savagely stabbed Olivia to death.
Afterwards, Benjamin left Olivia’s body in their apartment and drove to a restaurant in Millis, where his family was having a gathering. Armed with a knife, Benjamin attacked his mother and stabbed her in the stomach. Then, he attacked his father and stabbed him in the stomach as well. Relatives/bystanders were able to intervene and subdue Benjamin until police showed up. Luckily, both of his parents survived the attack.
Benjamin was taken to the hospital upon his arrest for the injuries that he sustained during the struggle with both Olivia and his parents. On February 13th, 2018, he was arraigned from his hospital bed. Benjamin pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Jury selection was supposed to begin on March 28th, 2022—but Benjamin decided to accept a plea deal. He ultimately pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of Olivia Bergstrom, and he also pleaded guilty to assaulting his parents. The judge sentenced Benjamin to life in prison, but as part of the plea deal, he will have the right to seek parole after serving 25 years.
A motive for Olivia’s murder and for the attack on Benjamin’s parents has not been disclosed. Family members state that Benjamin was struggling with substance abuse and had just begun to seek treatment for some mental health issues before the tragic events took place. It is believed that he was also intoxicated on both drugs and alcohol when he killed Olivia and attacked his parents.
Both Olivia’s parents and Benjamin’s parents were consulted before the plea deal, and both sets of parents agreed to the case's outcome.
