The Murder of Patrick Scott Jr.

Patrick Scott Jr. was murdered in broad daylight on February 3rd, 2019. The 27-year-old man was at a bus stop in Oakland, California when an unknown assailant approached and shot him over 10 times. Patrick was rushed to the hospital, but he unfortunately did not survive his injuries.

Prior to his death, Patrick lived with his mother and teenage brother in the South Berkeley neighborhood. Reports state that he was intellectually disabled, and it does not appear that he had any associations with any gangs or other criminal activity. Patrick is remembered as a playful and sweet young man; his death has been a devastating loss for his family members.

Patrick went to the bus stop on the morning of his death to catch a bus to his grandmother’s house. This was reportedly part of his normal routine. Patrick’s mother, Carol Jones, stated that her son had just left their residence when she heard the gunfire erupt. She ran to the bus stop and found Patrick suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Jones said she immediately brought her son to the hospital, where he tragically died shortly thereafter.

Years have passed, but Patrick’s killer still walks free. In 2022, authorities announced a $30,000 reward in exchange for information that could help solve the case. At the same time, an investigator from the Bureau stated, “the FBI has not identified a motive in this case. We believe that Mr. Scott’s murder was a senseless act of violence and that he was an innocent victim.”

Still, no suspects or persons of interest have ever been publicly identified in Patrick’s case. His family members are still hoping to find closure and justice. If you have any information that could help solve the murder of Patrick Scott Jr., please contact the FBI San Francisco Division at 415-553-7400 or submit a tip online.
