The Disappearance and Murder of Tyesha Bell

Tyesha Bell vanished at the age of 22 on May 10th, 2003. At the time of her disappearance, Tyesha lived in Aurora, Illinois, in an apartment that she shared with her sister. On the evening she vanished, Tyesha received a mysterious phone call that prompted her to leave the apartment. She never returned and was never seen or heard from again.

Tyesha's disappearance was quickly deemed suspicious by investigators. It appeared that Tyesha left home that evening with the intention of returning quickly. She left candles burning inside the apartment, and many of her personal belongings were left behind. Additionally, it was uncharacteristic of her to fall out-of-touch with her loved ones, especially her two young children. Investigators felt that foul play was responsible for Tyesha's disappearance very early on--but the case seemed to go cold quickly.

In 2004, it was reported that police had searched the home of a potential person of interest. However, no other information was released. After that, news about Tyesha's case was far and few in between.

Finally, in December 2020, human remains were found in a shallow grave in a wooded area of Kane County. Various clothing pieces and other items were also found in the area. Tyesha's loved ones were quickly able to identify the items as Tyesha's. Months later, DNA and dental records confirmed that remains also were that of Tyesha Bell.

Tyesha's exact cause of death still remains unclear, but police are now investigating her case as a murder. At this time, no arrests have been made. A tip line specifically for Tyesha's case has been set up by the Aurora Police Department. If you have any information that could lead to the arrest of Tyesha's killer, please call 630-256-5517.
